Default YCbCr or RGB

So I've had my tv set up for a while. Now I'm still unsure on these settings, which to pick. I find with RGB on a DVD the colours look true, and correct. With YCbCr it all looks washed out, blacks look grey.
I've heard people say they should look identical if your TV is calibrated correctly, but that's gotta be bull, otherwise why bother picking one, they'd both look the same quality.

So I'm currently on RGB for DVD's, but I'm hearing YCbCr is better for Blu Rays, which I've yet to test. But is this true, or again will it just wash out the colours? I don't really want to keep changing them every time I change from a DVD to a Blu Ray.
Stuff like that irritates me, I don't want to sit down to watch a film, only to remember I've got to recalibrate the TV and change all the settings before hand.

I think it has something to do with your TV's capability. On my TV, RGB causes black crush, a loss of shadow detail, and a bit more artifacting during dark scenes, so I stick with Y Pb.

But does it not cause white crush, or something? Making everything too bright and faded?

No - not with a calibrated set. I mean, my black levels aren't too good as it is, but giving my viewing environment, they're fine.

I'm definately not an expert but if I got my facts right (which I might not have) RGB is for use with monitors (like for example pc monitors) and YCbCr is for use with television sets but as I said someone with more knowledge might be a litlle more insightful

Well i doubt my set is poorly calibrated, as all colours look true, as well as skin tones, etc. I can see all dark details too, so unless YCbCr has magical qualities for Blu ray titles, It seems pointless to me.

Rgb is for monitors? That strikes me as rubbish. =/ More so, if YCbCr is meant to be a standard as it looks crap. Hell my Sky Hd box outputs in RGB as standard. That's not meant for computer monitors.

Hmm, well in this case - use whichever one seems best to your eyes!

sometimes... there is a setting in the set-up that defines what signal you are putting to the jacks... sounds like you did not select YPbPr and left it in RGB, or cables are reversed...

the people from ign said that the rgb settings is for monitors and that the ygb settings is for for hdtvs. i changed my options for my ps3 and the changes were noticeable.
