Sunshine was a letdown considering the European version did not have some extras the American version got. It was just plain wrong.

In general I am always a little disappointed in Warner titles because of their low bitrate encodes on many of their titles.
To be specific, I am disappointed in The Matrix Reloaded (this week) because the picture looked flat. I did a quick check on the bitrate meter and this movie maxes out at 15 Mbps and is often in the 10 tro 12 Mbps range. The picture looks OK, it just doesn't pop the way most of the Sony, Disney, Paramount, and Fox titles pop. |

"Hellboy II: The Golden Army comes to Blu-ray with a reference-quality 1080p, 1.85:1-framed transfer that retains the film's original theatrical aspect ratio. Detail is impeccable, even in the film's darkest scenes, of which there are many. This disc offers up one of the finest film-like qualities yet on Blu-ray; the exterior, nighttime, rainy scenes represent a remarkable home video achievement in recreating a high quality cinematic look." But for me, Point Break didn't look any different than the standard |

Gangs of New York, Scary Movie, The Sixth Sense, Hancock, The Messenger. Just a few off the top of my head. There have been plenty out there that have underwhelmed but there have been far more that have been solid. Despite some REALLY bad apples (see the first three on my list) I think we've been lucky to see more good than bad by far.
If you look at the early days of DVD, we are definitely riding high. I remember having to worry about crappy LD rehashes, glaring video issues, and non-anamorphic titles. Compared to the rough start of that format, we are in REALLY good shape. |
