Default Majel Roddenberry R.I.P.

I saw that there is already a thread started for this in the Off-Topic, but I thought she deserved better than to be relegated to an area that doesn't show up on the home page.

Although I saw Majel Barrett/Roddenberry on the original Star Trek in her role as Nurse Chapel, it was her role as Luwaxanna Trois on The Next Generation that really stands out. I guess she must have been in her sixties then, but the way she played the character just oozed sex appeal. And hopefully Majel had as much zest for life as the character I remember her best for. Hopefully, she's now reunited with Gene.

Here is a copy of SeahawxBlu's post from the Off-Topic forum:

Deep sadness for Trek fans today. The wife of Gene Roddenberry, who was best known for her roles as Nurse Chapel on the original Star Trek and the voice of the ship's computer on other various Star Trek shows, passed away today from Leukemia. She was 76.

Her last role, was the voice of the ship's computer in the upcoming Star Trek movie in 2009.

She will be sorely missed.

What a sad thing to happen. For she was not really that old.

I think its very cool thought that she was able to do one more Trek film (if just in voice).

Thanks for reposting that for me. I really wasn't sure where to post it, so I went into Off Topic. Thanks again.

The Enterprise just won't be the same without her as its vocal interface.

Never heard of her. But any death is sad in my book.

And Majel also voiced the computer of the various starships used throughout all of the TV shows and movies from the sci-fi franchise — she just completed her voiceover work as the voice of the Enterprise in director J.J. Abrams’ reboot of “Star Trek,” due in theaters on May 8, 2009.
I hope J.J. Abrams doesn't milk this like WB did with Heath Ledger's death and the Dark Knight

Her and Gene were what I believe bought Sci-Fi to the masses. They will both be sorely missed.

Sad day. Its kind of tough to watch our favourite actors from the original series leave us one by one over time.

that is sad. re-watching DS9 and enjoyed all the episodes she was in. also thought it was very cool her voice had carried over to other series. and very very cool to read it carried over to the new film. no other voice will feel right.

how is that being a jerk? I just don't want to see them use someone's death to promote a movie like they did with Heath, it wasn't fair to him and his loved ones

Very sad news. I am a huge Trek fan, and always liked her work and passion for the series.
