Unhappy Best Buy Suffering

i told you guys they would suffer with their current strategy...they rely on ignorance and branding to drive traffic...people got the picture and as a result their profits dopped 77 percent and now they are laying off and offering early retirements...this sucks because it is my favorite store but I saw it coming

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that everybody else's business is down because of the economy . . . I think you're reaching if you're blaming "ignorance and branding."

Default They should treat customers better

Maybe if they were a little nicer to people they would be in better shape. Even though I purchased my TV, Blu Ray player and computer monitor there it was because of the price and financing terms. The manager was extremely rude and dismissive and I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with a much nicer customer service rep to attempt to get the last $50 of my price match. The store finally relented but wanted to reduce the zero interest term to 18 from 36 months. I finally gave up arguing with them and left it alone. I was going to write to the CEO and tell them how I used to enjoy shopping at Best Buy but now I would avoid it and not recommend it to my friends and acquaintances. The salespeople were ill informed and not at all helpful and the transactions took forever because they wrote down my SS# wrong and it took an hour to get in straightened out.

With the economy right now people arent looking to shop for wants, they are more worried about needs. Name all the things at Best Buy that you actually NEED. Maybe you should run the company, because if you would have been running things we wouldnt have got this I told you guys this was coming.

I know that at the corporate level they're doing that, but I don't think it's gotten to the point of Circuit City.

People are restricting their spending. With electric utilities raising their rates, tuition costs going up, water rates rising, insurance costs booming, unemployment exploding, job wages stagnant, cost of credit rising.... people can no longer afford luxuries. Best Buy sells luxuries ONLY.

Out of the major chains left I only goto Best Buy and Target. I do my best to avoid Walmart because it's a pain to go there. Everything is a mess and it smells funny.

I've made some big purchases at Best Buy recently, a laptop and a 40" LCD on Black Friday. I also purchased the service plan for the TV.

I like Best Buy and want them to stick around more than the other places.

Default Same thing I've responded in every thread concerning this

I love shopping there, but I do my BUYING online. If I wanted to pay for the service side, i.e. buy from knowledgeable sales people etc... I'd buy from one of my local hi-fi shops that offer all of the toys I drool over and hope to one day afford...... those people struggle to survive in that niche market because of their passion for audio/video

Kinda hard to see stores like Best Buy to continually gaining popularity when they sell these new-fangled machines that provide you with the ability to shop online

It's all about the economy being in the toilet. I was in BB last night, and while the store was pretty busy, it seemed that people weren't buying much.

My dealings with best buy, is they strive to drive me out of the store, generally unhelpful refuse to sell games I like, and lie to me face to face...

I dislike best buy they are so much closer then frys, takes me a hour to get to the closest frys, takes 5 minutes to get to best buy..

I prefer frys.. they at least don't lie to me...

Best Buy is not doing horrible, they just realize the economy is in poor shape and won't be improving anytime soon. Best Buy is looking ahead and trying to eliminate employees voluntarily before they are forced to fire employees. Few companies have this type of forward thinking. I agree with what others have said about the poor service and high prices but this is a great move by the company.
