Default anyone else suffering over Sweeney Todd? :( My only hope is importing perhaps...

It kills me that Dreamworks is doing this...Paramount damn you. Who's with me?

I think Warner has international distribution though...we'll see. I'm sad though .

Have you heard this musical before or is it the hype that makes you want it?

Tim Burton + Johnny Depp have pretty much been the gold standard up to now. What's not to like? Plus, this movie has been generating a lot of Oscar buzz. That Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman are in the film ices it as a must have, even if that means waiting until after Paramount/DW come back to their senses.

I think I'll see it in the theater first and then decide whether this is an issue or non-issue to me, not to mention who knows where things will stand by the time it sees a home media release.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory was pretty weak, imo.

But all their other collaborations, I do love. Especially Ed Wood.

I know this film id Dreamworks but I think WB own's all the rights to it, the theatrical trailer has WB all over it the usual big WB logo at trailers start all the posters & stand cut-outs all have WB on it. Paramount is not involved with this film.

We're lucky that Warner has the international distribution rights, since their releases are always region-free. Importing it will be a cinch.

Coming just off the "HSM2 vs. Hairspray" thread, it was the first Sondheim musical I'd seen on stage back in the day--
And given how much the "Never seen a musical" demographic intersects with the "Dreamy-Depp fangirl" audience, now I'm looking forward to seeing the HSM generation not only see their first real Broadway-generation musical, but get their first taste of Stephen Sondheim giggles, full force.

(And still no sign of a possible "Into the Woods" movie that disappeared back in the couldn't-get-produced 90's, but if studios could revive Rent and Phantom out of those same years, it's just a matter of time...
I've been wondering whether "Enchanted"-mania might nudge a producer into grasping at straws.)

weak. it SUCKED. there was no emotional connection to any characters in any way. the original movie is amazing. it doesn't matter how much closer charlie was to the original book. willy wonka will always be better.

Are we sure that this movie is Paramount??

I know that Dreamworks produced the picture correct?

But how come everywhere you go, it says that Warner Brothers is distributing it?

If WB is distributing it, couldn't they also handle the home video distribution of the film as well? Which would mean that we would see it on Bluray here in the states.

Am I wrong here?

Its like TMNT. Its a Weinstein produced film, but WB distributed it, and thus we saw it on Bluray...

Even they trailer on the PS store says Warner Brothers.

i'd be the happiest person ever if I saw this available for Blu... but if not i'll just buy the DVD and wait for the Blu-Ray to come out, don't have the money for an expensive import.

I was just curious how many actually know this musical or are just interested in a Depp/Burton movie? As it is a broadway musical, I just see a lot of Depp fans wondering what they hell after watching it. I don't think a lot of Madonna fans probably had listened to Evita either when she decided to do a film version of that musical.

I have listened to this one a few times but maybe not in 10 years as I didn't really care for it. Wouldn't mind seeing a Miss Saigon production come out at some point. I would guess if this one is a big success there will be a rush to get more broadway musicals out in the theatres.

If "Phantom" and "Jekyll & Hyde" could have their own followings of gushy Harlequin-dreaming fangirls in NYC onstage, Depp in the movies has nothing to worry about...

And anyone who saw Patti LuPone in Evita knows that Madonna looked the part but acted it as if she were asleep. Patti LuPone should have given her some lessens.

Regarding Sweeney, pre-release buzz is really good from both musical theatre fans and critics. Apparently they've kept a lot of the music...and it's absolutely thrilling (I'm not a Sondheim fan, but this score gives me chills).

I have heard the musical before, it was disturbingly fun! I have also heard early reviews say that this is oscar worthy. Charlie and the Chocolate factory was not that great, it was okay. But Edward Scissor Hands, Sleepy Hallow, etc.etc.etc.... and all the other Burton/Depp movies are really good.
I know this will be one to own, and I can't wait to watch it!
If it is not out on Blu, we will either import it or just wait until everything is Blu!
