Default Blu Ray Players Have a Ways to go

Lets face it Blu Ray has just started gaining traction and all players seem to have 1 problem or the other. I suspect it will be a few years before all the bugs are worked out entirely. I wouldn't spend a fortune on a player because in a year or so it will be not as good as a player costing less. I bought the Samsung 2550 in spite of reservations I have about its long term reliability (I was always a Sony guy) because it was $250 when purchased with my new Samsung TV. The Sony was $400 and didn't have the Netflix option but it had the onboard DTS decoder. I suspect I will be upgrading my receiver in the not too distant future so that wasn't a huge issue. The Netflix option has been awesome so far and outweighs my reservations. Blu Ray disks are so new and loaded with features that it will take time to make all disks play perfectly on all players because the manufacturers can't possibly play them all and find all the bugs. This reminds me when I went from albums to CD's and the original CDs were awful sounding and the players weren't much better till they upped the oversampling rates. I spent a fortune on a state of the art Sony 707 CD player and it broke and then I exchanged it for a 747 player which at the time was the best but not long after when they raised the oversampling I wound up having to use it as a transport and letting my stereo decode it. It was unlistenable compared to a $100 player a few years later.

This kind of thing happened in the early days of dvd. Anyone remember the problems with the matrix. I had to take my samsung 709(remember them) back to comet for a firmware upgrade.

Stand alone players are usually up-to-date, and on the ball. DVD players, when they first came out, could not play any DVDs, and many now standard audio formats. I remember our first DVD player made an awful hissing noise.
At least with Blu-ray, more of the players are able to upgrade their software to support more formats. The PS3 (not stand alone) used to not even play DVDs upsampled. Now, thanks to updates online, it can upsample DVDs, play TrueHD, DTS HD MA, video files, and more.
You will have to give it some time as it is still a new technology. But I have had no problems with my player. And most players have firmware upgrades to fix problems that might arise.

They are doing very well, and have had fewer problems than other formats, but it will take some time to work all the kinks out and finalize all the standards and formats that arise.

So, you're upset that your player doesn't decode DTS-HD MA? And that you don't have a reciever that can decode it when the player bitstreams it? You should be happy that it's leaps and bounds ahead of some of the first BD players. CNET rates this player VERY GOOD and also states that Samsung promises that DTS-HD MA decoding will be in the near future with an firmware update. It's got a HQV Reon processor, 7.1 analog out and also bitstreams the HD audio codecs. I would be happy with it. Plus when you get a new reciever, you'll be all set.
