Default Vizio 120hz

I'm debating whether or not I should get the new Vizio 120hz. First of, it is an upgrade to my already crappy 32 inch Olevia that I have and it's also a budget 120hz set. Can anyone tell me whether or not it's a good tv and are there any bad things about it?

As you will hear from most people on this site, Vizios are not very good tv's. I own 2 of them, but there is a reason I bought my Samsung, because the PQ is not that good on the vizios. I just hooked up my father in-laws 120hz Vizio and to say that I was completely unimpressed with their new tvs is an understatement. I figured perhaps they have improved, but they haven't, same tv with a 120hz refresh rate. I have spent the last 4 weeks trying to talk him into taking it back to Costco and getting anything else. to no avail.

Stay away from the vizio's is what I am saying. Do you have a budget? What is it?

You're better off getting a 60hz samsung, sony, toshinba, lg or sharp or a panny or samsung plasma then the 120hz vizio.

wait for the vizio 505xvt 50 inch plasma, uses panasonic plasma panels & silicon optix HQV video processor. read review here http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...rColumnArea1.2
cost less than half of a panny Viera.

Thanks for the response guys, I think I'm gonna go with a Toshiba 1080p or a Samsung 1080p.

I would disagree enormously. I have a Vizio 32XL and the picture quality, while not top-of-the-line, is actually very good. Plus it's quite a bargain.

I have a Vizio VX32L, Vizio Gallevia GV42L and a Samsung LNT-4061F, and you can disagree, but I see the difference everyday. So personally, I would tell someone that if they are considering a TV, knowing I would never go back and get another Vizio, to consider something else, IMO.

Also, My father in law has a 1080p 120hz Vizio and it doesn't look any better then my 720p 60hz Vizio. My Sister in law has a 50" 720p Vizio Plasma, and that thing is the worst TV I have ever seen in my life.

I will say that my 32" Vizio looks better then my 42" Vizio, Trust me I see Vizios everywhere I go and the PQ is not nearly as good as the Sonys, Samsungs, LGs and Pannys I have seen.

XD I got my model number wrong...

Anyway, I can only judge the quality of my own set, not other Vizios, so I can't discern the overall quality of the brand...

But my parents have some other HDTV... can't remember the brand, but it's HORRIBLE. So I guess maybe I'm seeing it all in comparison.

EDIT: It's a Sylvania 720p 37" set... this thing is HORRIBLE. SD video looks like something on YouTube, and is ALWAYS over-saturated even at the lowest setting. HD video is washed out. And the speakers make everything sound like it's underwater. They got it on sale at BJ's... they should've known.

well yes compared to the dynex and westinghouse i had seen, i would take my vizios over them anyday. I guess it is relative to what you are looking at.

Since the OP said he was unhappy with his Olevia, I didn't feel telling him to get a vizio was much of a step up that he would be completely satisfied with. Of course, he and everyone should go to their local HT store and check the out themselves.... and ask for remotes so they can adjust settings and take it off of that vivid torch mode.

If Vizio makes you happy then of course, be happy, this is what it is all about.

I personally cannot really tell a big difference between a 60hz tv and a 120hz WITH MOTION ENHANCER DISABLED. The thing that makes a huge difference in picture between the two are the motion enhancers on the 120hz units. In my opinion, i would chose a 60hz Samsung long before a 120hz Vizio unit just because Vizio's motion enhancers are garbage and will need to be turned off. Therefore, you will be paying for the 120hz and "Smooth Motion" technology just to disable the "Smooth Motion" making it 60hz vs 120hz, which really isn't different at all, and now your stuck with a set that has way less specs for the price compared to a samsung, sony, or panasonic model. Have you considered Samsungs 630 series?

If that was confusing, in a nutshell, just go with a 60hz samsung, sony, or panasonic.

You can go to a Costco store and compare the Vizios with the other brands they have on display..

As the saying goes.. It may be cheap, but you get what you pay for..

There are others brands that are better than the Vizios - LG, Toshiba, Sharp, Samsung, etc..

Vizios sucks. LOL. Anyways there mixed reviews on Vizio, so I decided to go with the 42 inch Panny Viera Z80u. Now i want to return it and get a Sammy LCD instead . Too much maintenance on Plazzies.

Yeah, plasma's are nice, but early on you must give them a little tlc...

I suggest if you are staying in the price range of the panny 42 that you get a Sammy 40A550. great little lcd.

From your recent posts - you have bashed, Vizio, Olivia, Panasonic and are now considering a Samsung LCD.

Perhaps you should do some research before you keep taking these tv's back because you don't like them and the "maintenance" on a plasma is so much "work". Which makes no sense.

I've never bashed any tv, you don't know what you're talking about. Ive been shopping for a tv for months now and I needed opinions, First of I've never returned a tv yet, I had an Olevia for 6 months and I just recently sold it, and I bought the panasonic the passed weekend, SO HOW DID I RETURN 80000 TVS WHEN I'VE ONLY BOUGHT ONE!?

I don't have anything bad to say about my tv now, its a great tv I just don't wanna deal with it.

I just upgraded my tv from the Olevia to a Panasonic Viera 80u. Congrats on your purchase with the Samsung, I think I'm going to return my tv and get an LCD. Too much maintenance with plasmas, I looking towards the LG 42lb5d or the Samung 540 series 46 inch. Both tvs are under 1000 here at a local store in Orlando, FL.

I had the Olevia 232T before the Panny. IT IS A HUGE UPGRADE. Olevia's suck

Need I say more? The tv you have not is one of the best ones you can pick up. Plasma > LCD any day of the week (for now).

I bought the Olevia from a previous owner, not from a store, so that's not a returned purchase, I sold it. 2nd of all, I still have my plasma, so I haven't returned it either. 3rd, I'm not gonna argue with you...
