Default Is a Blu-Ray.com Store possible?

There have been countless threads on this forum with people discussing the goods and bads of pre-ordering, and also just placing regular orders online. Complaints of shipping times, prices, packaging, etc. What is the probability that this website can eventually run its own store? With the amount of users on this forum along, I can see it being very profitable. I don't know much about retail and what it would take to get a store like this started, but I would imagine a lot of the studios at least acknowledge this site and would be willing to help out with a store.

I would buy more Blu's period if that happened. A magazine would be nice too... We can't always get what we wish for though.

We could make some affiliations with eD and Polk too. Maybe Monoprice as well. Maybe if we got lucky Sony. This site would be big-time popular.

Being in the biz, you will never please everyone, Someone will always gripe or complain about something, That's guaranteed!! Profitability.....well unfortunately I think you have never examined costs associated with it, etc
Not only do you have to stock the merchandise, you have to pay to ship it, guarantee its delivery as well as the occasional fraud/chargeback associated with online purchases. At the end of the day, you don't make much unless you are moving mass units

As far as a store, blu-ray.com recommends Amazon and movies ordered through their links pay the bills here. Keeps the servers up and running, keeps movies reviewed as well as the continued development of the site.

Here is the blu-ray.com store
All movies ordered are shipped by Amazon and you benefit from their awesome customer service

Touché. I was thinking of pointing this out, but it would have never sounded the same as how you said it, hehe.

Sounds okay, but the problems you listed are far from anything that would be a valid reason of not having one. You have to spend money to make money. You must take risks to get results. Using PayPal on everything would protect everyone, keep costs down, make shipping easy, and would help filter out people who try to screw others over. This site could do a lot more than just exist if you know what I mean.

You are oblivious to the real world as a seller.......Paypal protects the buyer, the seller is responsible for anything Paypal deems fit. I have an idiot right now, and I use that term loosely, claims he didnt receive a movie off of ebay, d/c # shows delivery, but he says he didnt get it, maybe neighbor did, SO who do you think will end up eating that? Furthermore if you have ever done business in the trading forum you woul get a better picture of the group here, they want something for nothing

I'm a seller on eBay and the number one thing about PayPal is they ALWAYS side with the buyer. I have had a few customers, all who have received their items, who still open claims on PayPal... PayPal will AUTOMATICALLY deduct that money from your account as soon as the dispute is opened, and will 99.9% of the time side with the buyer... if you DO happen to win the "investigation" that they do, then it takes like 6 months to recoup the money they took out from the beginning.

PayPal is convenient, and I use it all the time, but I hate their ways.

Amazon's TOS dont say anything along that lines, Wal-Mart could have affiliate links if they wanted, In fact Amazon would welcome that but as a site owner trying to push your own product why would you drive business away from your own site?
They could have both, but what would be the point?

If I'm understanding him correctly, the "they" he is referring to is blu-ray.com-- and he's trying to say that a blu-ray.com store wouldn't be profitable, and along the same lines, we'd probably kick the Amazon affiliation (to spur sales of our own)... being that Amazon drives big revenue for the site, that'd "be a killer" for this site [to have our own store]...

bluray.com store could not offer the same deals as Amazon due to profit margins.... big bulk makes you the money.. and considering amazon offers millions of other items...meaning bluray sales is not their bread and butter...they can afford to work out better deals then a bluray.com store ever could...

Default No Store

Moreover, in order to be profitable, the store will have to sell tons of movies daily or sell few copies at very high prices (MSRP or above). The "hot deals" will be terminated or only deals from blu-ray.com store will be allowed to be posted (no Amazon, Tower, BBY, WM, DD, DVD Emp,...).
As a result, less people will be visiting this site, people will hardly buy from blu-ray.com store, blu-ray.com will lose Amazon revenues (as mentioned above). No revenues and no members/guests means no servers, no support from studios and imminent DEATH of the best site dedicated solely to our passion:BLU-RAY.

What i think would be very good would to be to add in a half.com style store using the collection, and movie function that is already on this site and using it to get rid of the trading forum.

For instance, when someone has a blu-ray they want to sell, they simply select that movie in their collection and list it as for sale( a feature that is already here). Then when someone is looking for a movie, they can simply search for that movie, And along with the screen that has the reviews, summary, screen shots, etc, there is a tab that says "Find It Used". When you click on that tab it automatically searches everyone's collections for that movie listed as "for sale" and compiles them into a list and the buyer can then choose whichever one he wants and selects buy. Then the buyer will send money to the seller through Paypal. after the payment is sent, blu-ray.com notifies the seller and the seller has a couple days to ship the item to the buyer.

This actually sounds like a pretty good idea! Also sounds like it could help curb some of the problems people have been having with users signing up for blu-ray.com to "set up shop" and yet, have nothing to add to the forums (discussion-wise). Because they would have to actually add a collection and go through more effort than just throwing up a thread saying "I have 50 of these for sale"...

If you didn't click a "Buy" that takes you straight through PayPal, that'd be okay, too... cuz you could just have the "Find it from other users" function and search everyone's collection that has it listed as for sale... then you can just know who's selling it, then PM them... and we can continue to do transactions the way we do (some use paypal, some don't, combined shipping, etc)...
