Default Your opinions please!!!

I have been researching Blu Ray disc players for a couple of months now and now I want to purchase a stand alone Blu Ray player to complete my home theater. The PS3 is not an option for me as the player has to be in a enclosed area. I have been looking at the Sony BDP-S1, Panasonic DMP-BD10, the Samsung BD-P1200, and the Philips Blu Ray player. I think the Pioneer will be out of my reach money-wise. What I need is your opinion what would make the most sense for me to buy in terms of picture quality, length of service life, value, etc. I would be most grateful if you would give me your opinions on which player I should finally settle on.

The Sony BDP-S300 will be available in July for $599, if you can wait that long. When that hits, it will be the cheapest on the market.

The PS3 is almost the best option right now, there are many to choose from and many more to come, you just have to do the research against what it is that you want. Otherwise, the PS3 is now the best.

If there's a will, there's a way. You can make the PS3 work in an enclosed area if you keep it well ventilated, much like you would a receiver.

Normally I recommend the Pioneer because it has the best picture quality of any other player. I also normally recommend the Sony PS3 since it is the best over all excellent value player. But since you mentioned in your post that those players are most likely not an option then I would recommend the following players.

Sony BDP-S1 would be a good BLU-RAY player.(1080P/24 support)
Samsung BD-P1200 might be an excellent player (I would wait for a review before purchasing this model) (1080P/24 support)
Sony BDP-S300 (This player is suppose to be better quality then the BDP-S1 in theory. Planned launch late July) $599 (1080P/24 support)

The Pioneer Elite is only $200 more then the Panasonic. Also if your display supports 1080P/24 get a 1080P/24 BLU-RAY player.

These are the players I normally recommend
For value the PS3 for $599 is a very good Blu-ray player that also plays games, CD’s and Super Audio CD’s.
If you are not interested in games and own one of the rare highend 1080P/24 displays the Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player for $1500 is the worlds best in terms of picture quality. The Pioneer is not perfect; it does not play CD’s,etc.

BOTTOM LINE If your main goal is getting top-notch video performance from a Blu-ray Disc player, Pioneer's BDP-HD1 is the one to buy. Of the four players I've tested so far, this model was by far the picture-quality standout.”

If you can make it work, the SONY PS3 is a great buy. Otherwise I would go with the SAMSUNG 1200 since is a second generation player and the newest out there. If you can wait the SONY BDP-S300 available in July will be a great player for $599.
