Good article.
Universal players did NOTHING to help SACD and/or DVD-A. |

The idea of hybrid players and discs is just plain ridiculous ! The introduction of these machines will only prolong the extinction of HD-DVD. I think the creators of HD-DVD are too proud to admit that their format has not been that successful. It's bad business to market a product that supports a slowly failing format, and confusing more consumers into buying a product that will be eventually obsolete !
BLU-RAY WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT A HYBRID PLAYER ! |

I realize they want to get revenues going but how about producing a cheap Blu player instead?
This is not good for Blu-Ray only owners. The number of Blu discs sold will go up but the number of HD-DVD sales will also go up. That is not what we need when trying to reach an end to that format. HD-DVD is an insidious parasite. |

I think the guy who wrote the article is a bit off. Granted, the first few players would suck, just as the Samsung's and Toshiba's intros were less than steller, but once enough players made it into homes, studios could start putting all their movies onto BR discs.

This is a misconception. It was NOT a bad thing to release two formats of discs. The bad thing was that HD-DVD got released PERIOD. As soon as I found out about them and saw that they were inferior to Blu-Ray I could NOT understand for the life of me why there was ANYONE out there who would be with opened arms about not just both formats but HD-DVD as if they found it entertaining that such a thing would happen and the prospect of there being a format war as if somehow it was a good thing for them to be competing on the market WHEN WE KNOW THAT ONE PRODUCT SUCKS AND THE OTHER IS GREAT! WHAT THE HELL??!!!
