Angry Why is FOX screwing over Pierre Morel's Taken?!

Taken is a great movie starring Liam Neeson that Fox continues to jerk around. FirstShowing.net has a great editorial that is definitely worth the read. I want as many people to see this movie as possible. Not to support Fox, but because it really is a very good movie. Easily in my top 5 of last year or will that be of next year (thanks Fox)?

Here's some parts of the editorial (head over to the link above to check out the entire article). It really is worth the read. If you haven't heard of this movie before, head to the link and in the article the three trailers are linked. This movie had moments that gave me goosebumps. Please give it a chance. You'll be glad you did!

Quote:
The other night I finally watched Taken, a film we've been following for over a year. I still remember watching the first trailer a year ago and nearly falling out of my chair when Liam Neeson says, "I will find you. And I will kill you." At the time, Fox had scheduled Taken to hit theaters on September 19th this year. But sometime since then, they moved it all the way to January 30th. Now after finally seeing it, and confirming that it is an absolutely fantastic movie, I'm wondering why Fox is screwing over a potential hit. They're burying one of the best action movies of this year (and next) and I don't know why!
Quote:
I'm not trying to make a prediction about its potential box office earnings, as it could still do very well on January 30th (considering Smokin' Aces made $36 million when it was released on the same weekend in 2007). However, everyone knows that January is a very bad time for movies and I'm already thinking Fox is just trying to dump this and get it off of their hands. I mean, they haven't done any marketing for it yet and it really doesn't seem like they care to support it at all. This would make sense if it were a bad movie or something that wasn't what everyone was thinking it was (e.g. Smokin' Aces or Cloverfield), but it's not!

Before I go any further, I need to say how badass Taken was. We've debuted at least three trailers over the last year and it still had plenty more to offer overall. Not only does it deliver exactly what you want to see (yes, you get to see Liam Neeson kick the shit out of all of the kidnappers), but part of the way through it actually moves to an even greater level. There's a lot more to the story, right down to Neeson's relationship with his wife and daughter, that plays an integral part in the overall film. To put it simply, I loved the hell out of this movie, and I'm considering calling it one of my favorite movies of 2008 … except that it didn't even come out this year.

Thumbs up Great PG-13 action picture!

I remember watching the trailers earlier this year, which made me watch the movie online. Loved it. When I went to go see The Day the Earth Stood Still, I finally saw the Taken trailer for the first time (in the theater).

I know I wanna see it again when it gets released in the States. Lets hope it's a big success.

Good post Jason.

Also, here's a good review from slashfilm. They talk about the need for a Taken 2.

Me posting here made me think if Taken 2 were to happen, that Taken would be the next action franchise, like what Bourne did.

Nice!

i have been following your sentiments jasonbird since you posted the first trailer for taken, this was my fav movie of 2008 even though it didnt get a north american release date, i have watched it 4 times and liam neeson was perfectly casted in his role. to bad fox is screwing with it (like they do with alot of films) it really could haul in some money if it was marketed right and a sequel would be kickass.

I saw the railer for this and cannot wait. Like anything else with studios. They will push a great movie back, around, or hide it from the public, yet Fox (or any other studio) will push crap that has Martin dressed like a big, fat old black woman on us and all of the sequels

Don't worry about it. It's going to be on Blu-Ray soon enough. So fewer people will see it in the theater - no big deal - it'll be in enough theaters where all ya'll will get a chance to see it. Besides most of the users on this site brag about how they never go to the movies anymore and how much better their home system is than their local cinemas. (Just look at the pix of some of those "home theaters" <cough cough>.)

I was fortunate enough to watch this in the cinema late September. Great movie, I think it really does a good job of filling in the crave for a true Bourne type thriller. As a huge fan of the Bourne trilogy, no it doesn't compete on the level of action, but it's still a treat to watch. I'll certainly pick this up on Blu-ray when ever it's available.

So Fox is screwing over Pierre Morel's Taken because they won't release it? It's on schedule or reschedule for Jan 30, 2009. I will look forward to seeing it then.

I remember seeing the trailer earlier this year. It looked really cool plus Neeson is always good.
