PS3 A/V question(s)

i have a 2 in 1 question regarding the same dilemma.

so it plays out like this, i'm going out of town, and i'm bringing the PS3 with me but there is no HDTV where i'm staying. i've NEVER used my PS3 with anything other than HDMI. given;

will my PS2 composite(yellow = video red and white = audio) cables work for PS3? it seems to fit just fine.

and now the real kicker that might make the PS3's trip useless is:
am i gonna need to turn down the resolutiona and AV settings here at home to support the composite AV cable before i pack it up, or will it just run just fine as it's supposed to with the composite cable?

i would really love a speedy response as i am already packing, and will be heading out in the next 2-3.
