Default Armageddon Aspect Ratio...

I just recorded Armageddon off StarzHD and I noticed the first couple minutes were in 2.4:1 but when Eddie Griffin asks his dog if he has to take a dump it drops down to 1.85:1... I never owned this on DVD... Anyone know if this is how it was suppose to be?...

I think it is either 2:20:1 or 2:35:1

Back when that transfer was likely done, it was standard practice to Pan & Scan down to 1.85:1 for cable. They're required to make sure all the credits are shown, which is why it starts out scope

You beat me to it. This is the correct reason for the aspect ration swap from wide to not-so-wide. All credits need to be shown.

When we get Armageddon on Blu-ray in 2009 we will see it in full wide screen (with black bars on top and bottom). I can hardly wait for it to come out in 1080p. Since it is a Disney title, we will most likely get it with 5.1 DTS Master Audio.
