Default Can you screengrab WITHOUT ripping?

I want to take screenshots of my Blu-ray Films (I'm using Power DVD Ultra on Vista), can I do this somehow without having to decrypt and rip the disc first? There must be a simpler way to just grab a frame.

Thanks

PowerDVD Ultra has a screen grab button for DVDs, but of course it's disabled for Blu-ray and HD DVD for copy protection reasons. What program were you using?

You can try this program, it is a freeware I use every once and a while. Not for Blu-Ray, for work.

This is a couple 720P Hellboy 2 trailer pictures I took with that program. I believe you should be able to use it with Blu-Ray as well.

Pretty sure Hardware Acceleration and CP will kill the possibility of snagging screen shots.

Look at a program called SnagIt, it simply does screen captures.

so far none of the screen grabbing programs i've tried have managed to bypass the HW acceleration and copy protection, and Blu-ray wont play without the HW acc on. Does anyone know a program they've personally tried successfully to screen capture a commercial, not ripped, Blu-ray disc?

What about fraps? I've used it to capture HD broadcasts from an HD tuner in a PC but maybe that's not copy protected?

I couldn't install Snappy 95 or whatever it's broken, but I've tried many other such programs.

And yes I tried Fraps, I use it for capturing DirectX games - it's the FIRST thing I thought of but no it doesn't work, it's the copy protection. Someone must know of a way... there are screen shots of Blu-ray films on the Internet, did they just appear out of nowhere or did people who made them have to rip the disc first just to screen shot?

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/...MrSnappy95.zip

Download the zip file and run setup.exe.

Choose where you want the program installed. (default should be fine)

Create The Directory.

Double click on the camera in the task tray and choose settings.

Choose your settings. I like selectable area, shoot with ctrl & up, and save to disk. Click OK twice.

Play your video and press your designated hot key to capture.

I took these pics with it, not broken. I don't know about Vista compatablility though...

Hey,

Have there been any change or updates in what can and cannot take captures. I’m working with a review site and we’d really like to be able to take captures of the discs we review without dumping the whole disc on the drive. Does anyone know what program or method the reviewers here use?

JasonR, does the program you mention above take full resolution grabs?

ArcSoft has a capture button, I only got it to work once though, the image came out pretty bad.

suprised this thread hasnt been binned yet, mods go crazy over screen-capture talk, they think people will copy films frame by frame.

That would take a lot of work to do that frame by frame. I wish I could capture a few frames in blu-ray it'd be nice to have like background pictures from movies I own in 1080p resolution, some scenes you just can't find on google.com picture or any other site for that matter. I can see where he is coming from, and also where the mods would be coming from as well.

The arcsoft image capture has always worked for me (I use it to capture images I use as my background).
