just for bragging rights. thats all! plus it does offer replay value to games, if you really like a games and want to do the challenges to get the trophies, they will keep you coming back! the trophy system is good but still not as good as the 360's achievement system

Why, What's better about achievments?

i just like them better. i used to have a 360 and felt more compelled to get them from every game, the gamerscore was a huge thing to me. The achievements was part of the 360 from the get go, to me the trophies system still feels like it was an after thought from sony (which it obviously was). i just don't get the same sense of achievement when i get a trophy from when i used to get an achievement on the 360

Thanks Brett...I just didn't know if they had a different set up or something that would make achievments better than trophies.

no problems! I think he trophy system could still use some work, it is just not as exciting as the achievement system on the xbox. I used to love signing into the xbox and seeing my gamertag with my gamerscore on it, then comparing my friends. There are some great things from the xbox that sony has tried to copy but imho they have failed, but i am sure they will get it right.....

i know in 2009 sony is making every company include trophies in their games so that's a good start

i had someone the other day tell me that he had more trophies than i did, ergo he was better than me (paraphrasing). so i guess thats one reason for trophies

i like trophies because it gives extra initiatives for games. you can play games with trophies in more ways than games w/o trophies.

maybe right now you can use trophies as a legitimate 'diss', but soon when all new games will have trophies, it wont be a 'i have more trophies than you because im better than you' itll be 'i have more trophies than you because i spend more money on video games than you'

This is so silly!

I play stupid games to have some fun, and after a couple of hours I feel like I have achieved nothing. I have only completely wasted time of my life, sort of like an anti-achievement. Nothing I deserve a trophy for. But when your real daily life is very real and stressful, A couple of hours of escapism, whether it be watching Death Race, shooting bad guys on the PS3 or a round of gold at St. Andrews on the Wii can be very therapeutic.

I'm just the opposite... I like the RPG style leveling up that you can do with trophies better than gamerscore.

I completely 49285723948752938572394792347% AGREE. The PS3 system is SO much better. I feel like it's incorporated into the system very well opposed to something with the xbox that's just in the back-ground.

Achievements, Trophies, points.... I don't think I'll ever understand why people care.

Have you ever gone into an arcade, and on some random game seen some random persons random initials displayed as the TOP PLAYER!!! Do you really give a flying f*#k about who the top player was? Same with leaderboards - whoopdie friggin' doo.

Maybe it's just me - yeah, it's probably just me. The only games I really enjoy are story driven games, such as horrors and RPG's. It's a ridiculous concept to go up to a friend and say "I'm more hardcore of a Silent Hill: Homecoming player than you."

Why are people that don't care about trophies and achievements so hostile towards them? I've never seen someone that enjoys collecting trophies complain about people that don't, but for some reason people that aren't into it (and that's fine, I don't go out of my way to earn them) always seem offended by their existence.

I find that comparing acheivements can be a great way to get help when you are stuck in a game. Many games have acheivements that indicate that you've passed certain levels. When I get hopelessly stuck...... I just look for a friend that has an acheivement that shows he's past where I am and message him for help.

I'm not exactly against them. I enjoy them as well. I do however find that to a certain extent they are detrimental to the quality of multiplayer games. You'll find a lot of acheivement addicts who feel that they must get every acheivement in the game. This leads them to play in less than a teamlike manner. Like that one idget who hangs on to his sniper rifle instead of switching to the SMG or shotty that he is carrying.... even as he is surrounded by up close enemies..... just because he is trying to get his sniper acheivement. That idget irritates me to no end.

Its also a good way to see what games your friends play, and see if they have the same tastes as you, therefore when they are playing a game you don't have you might consider it..

For me, the trophies have breathed new life into games I would not have ordinarily played over again. One that comes to mind is Battlefield: Bad Company. I really enjoyed that game and I loved the controls, but when I started playing over again it just felt a little like "been there done that...let's buy a new game."

When the trophy patch came out, they forced me to play the game in different ways that I am not used to and I feel that they made me a better gamer. For instance, I am more of a stalker/ head shot guy then a run and gunner. I will sit and wait for 45 minutes to shoot a dude in the head and a lot of trophies don't support my brand of thinking, so I have had to adapt and now I am good at playing both ways.
