Default Keeping everything same brand - does it matter?

I'm considering a Sony XBR6 TV
Sony BDP-S500

Would a Sony receiver add any sort of "bonus" to this system?

You could control all 3 with only one Sony remote thanks to the Bravia link, but that's it, really.

No, it just matters for your speakers and even there you can get away with different models as long as your front three have the same type of tweeters, woofers, drivers and crossovers. Try to demo your gear before you buy it to compare and get the best quality you can afford.

I dont think that there is a benefit except for being able to use one remote to control the Sony components and theater sink is kinda cool. I have all Sony stuff works well.

My friends post above is correct, try them out before you buy and get what fits your taste and budget.

I have four really nice 20" wheels for sale. The only thing is they don't match....but hey..they will fit your car. When Sony.Panasonic.etc makes a product they design it to work best with their components.I will always believe that you get best audio/video that way.

That's not entirely true or else everyone would be making everything.

- Denon, NAD, Classe, and Outlaw don't make TV's.
- Most speaker companies do not make electronics, i.e., amps, receivers, BD players, etc.

Since Denon doesn't make a TV, will their Blu-ray players look worse on a Sony TV? I see your point, but I think it is flawed in the HT world. That is why HTiB's are so looked down upon.

I currently don't have anything that matches besides my speakers. I certainly do not buy because a company makes their equipment better match their own equipment. I actually don't believe that is 100% true anyway. Why? Call a customer support line about your TV and then ask about your DVD or Blu-ray player. I bet you get transferred. I know within the company I work for different products that you would think are designed and supported by the same groups aren't.

Everything is designed to specifications and standards agreed upon in the given industry. I buy want sounds and looks best to my ears and eyes.

It'll give you the bonus of mediocre sound quality. Sorry, I'm not a fan of Sony receivers after suffering with one.

That is not true at all. All are made differently with the same end deisred end result. They HOPE you buy all their stuff but it is not needed. For example Sony makes an excellent blu ray player but many reviews don't feel the same way about their recivers. The tires example is a poor comparison. You would have been right if you said that every speaker in your system is different say a Sony left front then a Bose front right. That is the only time that matching becomes a concern.

That is why I go with B&W speakers
Sub by SVS
Denon reciever
Sony PS3 for blu
Mits for tv

Without going into some analogy about how truck tires are the same as electronic gear, could you explain why you think this is true?

I don't know if having a Sony TV and a Denon Receiver is that much of a big deal.I do think that you will get maximum video performance from matched compoments...especially using blu-ray.Why??......Because when a company (Sony,Panasonic etc) is tuning their blu-ray players they are using their brand tv.I don't see the guys in a Panasonic plasma factory saying "Hey...let's see how it performs on a PS3".Another reason I like matched compoments is I have been buying Panasonic /Technics products for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. And if that is not enough it just looks better to see the same name on my components.

My first receiver was a Pioneer 1010. Bought it in '74.

I got a Technics turntable with it - still have it. Works great. With an Audio Technica stylus.

Next came three Technics receivers - I still have them. They still work.

But I've had CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray players from everybody - running on Quasar, Philips, and Sony TV's - all with outstanding results. Speakers? I don't want to get started, except to say I smoked some early Technics speakers with my 1010, and never looked back.

What I want is the ability to accept a standard electronic signal, which has nothing to do with manufacturers matching anything except an industry-standard specification for sound and video.

It sounds like you have a "quality expectation", which makes sense - Panasonic (Matsushita) has always made excellent gear - but this has absolutely nothing to do with meeting the specification for analog or analog-to-digital clarity or quality. Every component has to be good, but they don't have to come from the same source.

I don't know if I will see "flicker" when I get my Panny plasma but it will be interesting to see how it does since I have the hdmi going to my Panny SA-BX500 receiver then back to my Panny tv.My player is a BD30.I will let everyone know if it has any "flicker" in the 24p mode.
