Default Such a noob to this, but ..

I just picked up a Samsung LN52A850 and BDP1500. Was a decent deal and I've been floored by the PQ of this TV. Not so impressed with the BD, but could be more than one reason for that, lol (i have zero clue about settings for the BD picture quality or if the 1500 is even decent).

Anyways, .. I've been looking now at getting a receiver and speakers to compliment the new tv and bd.

After reading some threads here, I've been thinking about the 606 Onkyo or the V663 Yamaha. Seems the Yamaha has the better video processing, but who knows. This will be an all purpose system that needs to handle music and bd's well, .. any opinions on this would really help.

The speakers are an issue for me as well, .. the room is awkward and I don't se any setup that will allow for rear surround speakers to be used. Is a sound bar option best? .. or could I find a center channel speaker to use with my Infinity Primus 150's that will do ok?

Looking to get into the receiver and speakers for under 1k.

Have been reading many threads here and am a bit fuzzy headed at the moment, hehe. Any advice would be great and appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think a sound bar is best. It will not give you the real surround sound of a 5.1/7.1

If You could take a pic or do what some have done and try and draw your room and post a pic of it. I use PhotoShop to draw things, but you have a program on your computer called "Paint" that can do the same thing.

With the pic we can give better advice.

Congrats on your new purchases! Pretty great to experience all of it, isn't it?

You're question is a good one, and I can say that there are some very knowledgeable people who can answer your question, but for those who are into speakers, I think I can speak for many in asking just how your room is set up now. Dimensions to work with? How your furniture is arranged?

Both of the receivers you are interested in are held in high regard by many in these forums, and as long as your room isn't overly large (I get the idea that it isn't), either the Onkyo or the Yammy will do you well. I would suggest that you have a critical listening session at a local store which carries them (if you can). Make sure you start off with any tonal controls (such as bass & treble) set "flat" and go from there, augmenting the tones and listening at low and high volume levels, through good quality speakers. Bring a CD which you really enjoy for its sonic quality and/or your choice BD disc for some critical listening.

Incidentally, I have not heard many sound-bars, but those which I have heard seriously compromise bass quality and, of course, you will not have the best in surround sound projection.

Just start with the basics, and work your way up. Honestly, you may never stop upgrading as the months and years roll by!

Good luck!

Appreciate the responses already, .. I've worked up a MS Paint that shows the room, lol .. no clue how much detail ya needed .. heh.

The room is about 30 x 13 and layed out pretty close to how I show. The windows are huge and I didn't want to block them when I set things up.

QUick Edit .. I will also be getting a sub for the room, .. not sure what, .. but that's for a later discussion ,heh.
