Default Salamander audio rack?

Hello all. I am having issues with my system set-up, and the problem is placement. My apartment has a built in tv nook with an underneath closed in cabinet. Should I use the cabinet for my gear or should I get a Salamander audio rack instead and used the cabinet for storage of extra audio/video crap? The deal is that it's difficult to get behind the components to un-hook and hook-up cables, and it gets warm under the cabinet even with the doors open. I could add fans I guess. What do you guys think? Take a look at my set-up in the HT gallery for your input. By the way, I will be adding an Emotiva 7-channel amp and a new Onkyo 706 to use as a pre-amp. I was thinking about putting the Salamander in the spot that my blu-ray rack sits in now.

Personally I'd go with a seperate Audio rack. Can you provide a link for the stand of which you speak?

Sure here is the link: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SMA5

Thanks for your response. I thought I would get more advise on the topic, but one response is better than none at all.

I'd go with the Sal, if you any amount of money into nice equip, I would make sure it wouldn't over heat. Besides what's 450 bucks for a nice looking stand to show off your stuff?

If it was me, I would take those doors to a cabinet shop and have them cut for glass inserts. While you're there get 3-4 slide out trays for your equipment(tell them your plans and they could probably build them cheaper). From the picture, it looks like the cabinet has a standard toe kick. I would mount 2 fans in the floor at the front pulling air out of the cabinet. You should be able to find a small fan to fit under the cabinet in the void under the floor(should be about an inch).

The link he provided shows an open cabinet. The only reason he would need fans is because you're telling him to enclose it in glass. If the guy wanted an enclosed rack he probably would've chosen one that's already made that way. So now he has to buy a $200 rack and have $200 worth of mods done to it?

If you re-read the OP he's asking for opinions on whether to use the cabinet he's got or buy a new one. I gave him an opinion on how to make what he has work better. And if you re-read my post I never said to enclose it(the new rack) in glass, just modify his existing doors. Hope that clears things up.

Go with the rack. When you move you can take it with you.

Ilike your idea Rob71, but this is an apartment, and I can't mod the built in. I could add fans though.

I was thinking the same thing about the heat. The website I am using has the stand for $199.99.
