Ps3 can't play 2ch 48khz thru onkyo 606 hdmi

I have played with all the setting possible nothing works....I have a ps3 connected to onkyo 606 hdmi....when i play the bluray demo disc that came with the ps3 all the trailors play except 300 Casino Royal and Underworld...I came to the recognition that those trailors are in 2ch 48khz all the others are 5.1.....I thought hdmi can play all format...someone please help because my directv audio won't play thru hdmi also.....optical works fine on both....

I'm having trouble deciphering what you are saying but...

I think the PS3 outputs even CDs in surround, NOT stereo. It doesn't make any sense, but hey....

Not true at all. The PS3 won't create multichannel output out of a 2 channel source.

Check the settings on your receiver to figure it out. If you have your receiver set to apply Dolby Pro Logic IIX or some other surround mode to the PS3's input, the receiver will incorrectly matrix out the 2.0 channel source to surround sound. You should set your receiver to 2-channel stereo, straight, or pure direct mode to ensure your receiver is not incorrectly processing the 2 channel receiver.
