5.1 on direct TV broacasts not working with Elite AVR - Blu-ray Forum

I watch network broadcast show on my direct TV that shows HD/5.1
on the screen as the show starts. My problem is I do not get the 5.1 I only hear sound out of my front speakers and the sub.

I have direct TV connected to my Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH w/HDMI
I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH that is set to Auto in the SBdirect setting.

Is it the AVR that's not set properly, I appreciate any help you guy's can give, thanks

check for a setting that says " multi-channel / stereo "

...does the DirecTV box have a settings menu, maybe an audio option for:

PCM
Dolby Digital
PCM / Dolby Digital

...either way, you want one that says Dolby Digital.

On my Directv receiver (HR20), when you hit the menu button and choose audio, the Dolby Digital is an "on" or "off" function. Nothing about PCM, DD, PCM/DD.

I would make sure that your receiver has selected "on" for DD.

I don't have an Elite AVR, but I have had no issues with DD material not playing through all 5.1 speakers.

Looks like your receiver setting is okay so it must be in the Directv setting.

yeah I was just guessing as I have DishNetwork.

But I figure it was a simple setting in the box.

The DD was set to off in the box, I set it to on and 5.1 works perfectly. I didn't know there was a setting for this.

Just another reason I'm on this forum, thanks guy's !!!

I have noticed sometimes shows on DTV are flagged for DD..... but do not actually have DD
