Question BD-live on Blu-ray

I've just finished the installation of my new Panasonic DMP-BD35K to my LAN line and would like to see what the BD-live thing is all about. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding the best Blu-ray movie for this feature?

Most BD-Live features are rubbish at the moment. I guess Iron Man's quizz is okay, but generally all you get are trailers and promotional featurettes.

Personally, I really enjoyed the BD-Live feature on 'Saw IV.' It is/was a b!tch to figure out how to use, but once I figured it out it was pretty neat. You pick one of several scene options from the film and create your own little written commentary with graphics and images for the scene. Then, upload it so that everyone with the Blu-ray and a profile 2.0 player can check it out.

Like I said though... it's a REAL PAIN IN THE ASS TO LEARN HOW TO USE. It took me over an hour to get it working properly.

I'd recommend Disney BD-live for the sheer setup. They're the only studio to have added flash animation and music to the BD-Live menus. Their quiz on Sleeping Beauty is okay, but I wish they'd bring in more interesting updates. So far, I find nothing changed by the updates they issued.

Anything else is really just DownLoads. I hear Heroes has got good stuff, though.

Iron Man has a pretty nice BD Live section consisting of trivia questions that test how well you paid attention to the movie.

Sleeping Beauty is pretty ambitious with their BD-Live functionality with chatting, synchronized viewing, time of day/temperature display, and bunch of other stuff. I believe you can even control it using a cell-phone. Some of the stuff wasn't active when I first tried it so I'm not sure if everything is active yet or not (haven't tried it recently). You can also do all your Disney Rewards stuff through it. If you want a newer movie, Transformers was pretty good. The Lionsgate titles have the MoLog that is kind of interesting. There were some others that I thought were pretty good but at the moment, I can't remember which ones. I'll have to look through a list or something to jog my memory.

They need to come up with something besides using the onscreen keyboard to input username and password. Perhaps a key file embedded in your flash card or something. Who ever came up with this requirement for CE DVD player is an idiot.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate all the suggestions. I have "movie night" at my home once or twice a month and think we'll take a look at Sleeping Beauty for the umteenth time, but this time in HD!!! It will also give me the chance to check out the BD-live feature.

No problem. For a movie night, the main thing Sleeping Beauty would offer is what was mentioned earlier, Disney type games (trivia games). The movie chat, movie mail, calendar, etc. is more for connecting friends residing in different locations or for scheduling things. If you do try Sleeping Beauty, be sure to setup your account and all that stuff beforehand. The address is here:

http://www.disneybdlivenetwork.com/

Actually, just checking the link, it shows what's available and what it does, etc. Anyway, you may be able to do it through BD-Live as well (I think I did mine that way) but it's easier to do it through the website (imo).

I agree. Right now, it doesn't really seem worth the time and money I spent getting connected. It has potential though. The streaming video is agonizingly slow! Although I can't recommend a movie with BD Live, I will say that The Dark Knight and The Incredible Hulk had disappointing BD Live functionality. Fortunately BD Live has the ability to evolve, so that's exciting.
