I know when a newb asks for opinions it leaves the forum open to heated debate (and hence, subject to possible locking, lol).

I just wanted to say thanks to all that offered info. It was actually quite easy to come to the decision I have, based on the posts (holy hell y'all gave me enough to mull over in a short amount of time, lol).

Thanks again, it's good to have a place to go for informed info!

no prob, man!! just get some speakers!! The PS3 is amazing.

Yeah, speakers are next. Actually, the Onkyo 606 is replacing a Sony HTIB. But I've been studying up on some of the DIY speaker projects at places like speakerbuilder.net and parts-express.com.
It really looks like a way to get the AQ I want without spending four digits on a 7.1. 'Sides, I'm one of those that HAS to try it myself. Whether it works or bombs, I have to give it a shot (cigarette rolling machines, home brewing, I even repair my own car parts rather than buying replacements).

A stand alone BD player will come some day, but mainly to save the wear and tear on my PS3...I really love Tiger Woods PGA '08, lol.
