Ps3 Playback Audio Info/ Help

I am considering purchasing a PS3 more for its Blu Ray DVD than as a game console. I believe that the new firmware update 2:30 Has just improved the sound quality and its ability to playback Dolby True HD and DTS-HD MA, now my questions is the following: does it playback DTS-HD Master Audio in bit stream or is it just plain DTS-HD Master Audio. And if i understand correctly with this update you will have the ability to get the perfect sound just as it is done in the studios. I understand that one will need a receiver that has DTS-HD MA abilities. All I need to know is that i can use the PS3 player as my DVD and that it will do the same as anything else out there now that the new firmware update has been released. I am thinking that it will do as good if not better than any Blu Ray DVD player currently available.

The PS3 does not bitstream audio to the receiver. The decoding in done internally and then sent to the receiver as PCM. The PS3 currently supports all HD audio you can throw at it. For the money you can not currently get a better blu-ray player. AQ and PQ have been decribed as perfect in many reviews. downside is the lack of IR remote but for 25 dollars you can get the PS3 bluetooth remote and it is pretty good. also on the plus side is firmware updates through Wi-Fi which takes away the threat of damaging your machine if you do it wrong.

Also, you don't need a receiver with the new HD codecs in it. Since the PS3 cant bitstream the new audio formats, any receiver that can do PCM with HDMI can play the HD Formats.

Exactly, you will just need to make sure the receiver you get will play audio over HDMI. Some will only pass through video, so avoid those
