it's decent for what you get, at least you'll experience the 5.1 sound. it's nothing "spectacular"...

As far as I know, it does not come with a blu-ray player. If you don't need it then it may be a good deal for you. I don't have it but it seems ok.

I would stay away from any entry-level Sony receiver.
What is your budget, and what do you need?

It depends on your situation. I am not sure why you would want surround sound in a bedroom - I would rather have that in the family room. I would want my bedroom viewing to be a more relaxing experience - not sounds buzzing all around the room.

However, your budget will really only allow for a basic HTIB solution. For a bedroom, I personally would save up another couple hundred, and get a decent receiver and a couple nice bookshelf speakers. I think this solution would sound better than a basic HTIB.

+1 When it comes to audio, I would stay clear from Sony. They are great with video equipment but there are better options for audio.

For an HTIB I'd check into Onkyo as I hear they make some pretty good little systems. Mind you, none of these HTIB's will be all that spectacular but Onkyo is probably a better option to consider.

I enjoy having friends over to watch movies or a football game - can't do that if it is in your bedroom. Well you could, but it would be weird...

I think in the $500 range, most HTIBs will sound basically the same. They all should be fine in a bedroom.

And here is another reason I don't like Sony audio stuff -
From their spec sheet:

Audio Power Output
1000W (143w x 5 + 285w (1KHz, 10% THD))

Even with 10% THD (which is very high), there is no way this system can put out 143w to all channels at the same time. How about a little honesty.
