Edit: I just realized that your receiver has HDMI input. Connect the player to receiver with an HDMI cable and then connect the receiver to the TV with another HDMI cable. Last edited by Big Daddy; 01-15-2009 at 10:46 PM. |

The COAX cable can be used to connect the receiver to the subwoofer.
You really need only the HDMI cable to connect the player to the receiver. HDMI will give you all the CODECS: PCM, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD MA, Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. If you set the player to output in PCM format, your receiver will show multi-channel input on its display. There is nothing wrong with that. You are getting HD audio. If you set your player to output in bitstream, your receiver should display Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA. If you have PS3 as your player, you must set it to PCM. PS3 cannot bitstream the HD audio. |

It will be helpful for you to read A Guide to Home Theater Audio Codecs. You can get HD audio with either setting your player to PCM or bitstream. The difference is summarized below.
LAYPERSON’S GUIDE TO HD AUDIO HDMI Connection to the Receiver, Player Set to LPCM
Footnote: When a disc player is connected to a receiver with multi-channel analog cables, the player must perform digital to analog decoding and send the analog signal to the receiver. In this case, calibration and bass management adjustments such as speaker sizes and channel levels should be done in the player's setup menus or the receiver must have bass management for the 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 ANALOG inputs. If the player lacks calibration adjustments or the receiver cannot perform adjustments for analog inputs, bass management cannot be performed. Quote:
