I expect this will include the DVD boxset features, but they weren’t on the DVD-R. A little disappointing there’s no special digibook but better than nothing. Maybe it can be released in the UK through the Premium Collection?

It's quite possible they used either the same artist or Columbia in-house design team. It was never as bad as today's copycat book covers or Zardoz floating head movie posters but there was a lot of recycling of layouts when studios were churning out new films every ten or twelve days.

I can’t believe it!!! Finally more early Capra releases! I’ve watched my dvd copy every December at the start of my Capra marathon and it hasn’t aged well at all transfer wise. This should be a monumental quality increase.
I really hope this will inspire more to see this film and recognize it as the exact moment everything crystallizes for Capra, Riskin and Columbia. It’s a shock seeing it the first time because so much of what came to be known as a Capra film are in full evidence. Basically imagine Capra doing a lower budget Warners early talkie but with the story having many of the recognizable traits of later films. (Incidentally when I first saw Platinum Blonde I almost fell out of my chair when they did the echo scene which was essentially reworked for the famed scene in Mr. Deeds.) Please please please let this mean Platinum Blonde and the others from the expensive TCM dvd-r early Capra set are coming. I agree with the above that Bitter Tea could definitely use a redo. |
