Default Blu-ray laptop to TV - is it possible?

Recently purchase an hp laptop with a blu-player - trying to watch blu-ray dvd movies on my plasma tv but i keep getting a box that says blu-ray cannot play in this format. Is there a way to set it up so that I can use the laptop blu-ray to watch them off of our tv. I connected the laptop via its hdmi connector to the hdmi connector on the tv (its an LG) - we can watch hd dvds but not the blu-rays. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Wait, are you sure it isn't an HD-DVD player built into the laptop? What kind of laptop is it? What program are you using? Where did you buy the drive? What kind of drive is it? Do Blu-ray movies play on the laptop screen at all, or does it ALWAYS give that message?
Kind of need more info. Im positive that i cant help you, but those are definately the questions that people who can help you will ask.

Good luck. Oh, and it isnt a Blu-ray DVD, Its a Blu-ray disc. Just letting you know... too much incorrect naming will cause the fanboys to attack you around here.

(By the way, where the hell did you find an HD-DVD? I haven't seen them in quite a while. Even the Hock Shop doesn't accept them anymore.)

I need your Laptop model number - your playback software, and your operating system. Then I can help you

Default Hope this fixes the problem

Yes there is a way.

I have a Sony VGN-FZ180E Blu-ray burning laptop and got the same message.
The problem is that it cannot duplicate the HD image to BOTH laptop screen and television screen.

What you need to do is using your F7 button, filter the image to "just the television" so the only image is on the tv and not on the laptop anymore. That should fix the problem. Of course, check and and make sure you have all the updates for your blu-ray player too.

Hope that works out for ya!

Yep! Sounds like HDCP is not liking two displays.

Here is what my VAIOs look like when choosing which display to use(Fn + F7):

Juno, thanks alot it worked and we've been watching blu-ray discs non-stop. On the HP laptop we have it is the function 4 key that channels the movie to TV only.

One final question, is there anyway to get the image to fill the entire tv screen - we have a 50 inch LG plasma TV.

thanks again.

What Blu-ray are you watching?
On the back of the BD case, what Aspect Ratio does it say the movie is?
If it is 1.78:1, it should fill the screen nicely.
If it is 2.35:1, you will have "Black Bars" and you really shouldn't try to get it to "fill the screen".
It is supposed to look like that.

Search the forums for "Black Bars", it will be explained.

To get a 2.40:1 Aspect Ratio movie to fill a 16:9(1.78:1) screen, you will have to zoom, crop or both.
