Default Blu-ray Laptop?

Anyone have any suggestions on a decent Laptop with a blu-ray drive and a 1080p screen? HDMI out would be nice too.

Thanks!

Just curious, but what is the appeal of a laptop with a blu-ray drive?

I don't think the quality would be that much better than a dvd playing, or am I wrong?
Or is it just so you can watch your movies on the go?

A Sony Vaio will be your best choice.

+1 Try sonystyle.com I'm also on the market for a BD Laptop. Fortunately, 1 of my days at work I have about 5-6 hours of down time to watch blu's. Y watch dvd if you can watch BLU!!! UNFORTUNATELY, my job doesn't pay very well

I own a Sony vaio and an HP HDX series, for the money the HDX wins.

18.4" screen, 8 GB ram, 1TB harddrive, HDMI out and dedictaed video memory for roughly 2K.

The sony is a quality unit but the screen is better on the HP for blurays. Both have glossy screens though so watching movies on the go will not be better than a normal DVD after you factor in the glare. The HP does better under bright lights, but that isn't great because honestly they both suck at it and under sunlight are unwatchable.

USA HP Laptop w/Blu-ray!

As you can see in my signature block, I have an HP Pavilion dv7-1267cl laptop with a Blu-ray player. Mine is about 4 months old so I think a newer model is available.

I love it. Blu-rays play great. Updates from HP are no problem. I watch Blu-rays alot on this baby. Got it from Sam's Club.

What about Dell? They used to have a model with blu-ray, but can't seem to find it.

Don't mean to invade this thread, but does anybody know if I can hook up my HP blu-ray/HDMI enabled laptop to my Pioneer receiver for HD surround sound? I know it works for video output and stereo via HDMI but I've never thought about hooking it up to my receiver before. I have an HP dv9000. Thanks! (My PS3 stopped reading discs last weekend ).

BTW, to the OP, I would suggest HP laptops because I love mine. However, keep in mind, the failure rate for an HP computer is absurdly high. Definitely no substitute for a standalone BD player, but for what it is (traveling), it's great!

I'm not sure if it's any good but this weeks Best Buy ad shows a Gateway laptop with a blu-ray drive for $499.99.

A blu-ray player is one thing, a good LCD screen is another! I highly doubt that a $500 laptop will have a good lcd screen.

I have a Dell laptop with BD player and 1200p screen that looks amazing. my dad also has one and it too liiks amazing. Great brightness and colors. You can choose the screen when you build a Dell on their website and I can tell you, go for the most expensive one if you want to watch BD's on your laptop.
I have a friend with an Acer laptop and in comparison to mine his screen has dull colors and lower resolution.
Sony Vaio's also have great lcd's in them. I saw one in a local store a while back and I was like "that's the only one in the store that has proper whites".

The problem with Best Buy is that the laptop's don't include much software, so after you purchase all the license you are paying almost twice as much as you thought.

Just call Dell and have them build a laptop specific to what you need. They are GREAT for building computers to your specifications. You should be able to get a really nice laptop for under $1000.

Check Dell's outlet store. They have the ability just to search for either blu ray writers or Blu ray rom. Definitely my next laptop will have the ability to play blu-rays.
