He's good but I loved Eccleston.

I hope this guy appeals to me more.

I preferred Ecclestone too.

Wish he'd stuck round for the 2nd season.

I like the Matt Smith because I think it's marvelous they have gone for an actor who hasn't built up a "star" profile yet

That and I like that he's sort of... well not attractive. None of the doctors are hot but he's the goofiest looking.

I like this because he'll have to be depend more on being awesome.

And the new doctor comes with a new director!

Yep Steve Moffat is a fantastic writer.

He avoids all the camp showboating that floods Russel T. Davies scripts!

I think Russel is better suited for Torchwood.

When does the new doc/director start?

Spring 2010. Tennants tenure comes to an end around new year. there are four specials this year, one at easter, but we have no idea when the other three will be on.

All we have been told is that David's exit is gonna be huge... So I look forward to seeing the Tennant years come to an end on Blu-ray soon!

With it on blu-ray it will be tempting to at least rent. Especially if it's as bombastically epic as you say.

We're fans of Tennant. We're just not fans of the New show.

(As in, "Oh, how our heart pities Christopher Eccleston for having to be stuck with Billie Piper..." )

Doctor who ?
not sure what you are asking, but if it is a general "what is Doctor who" question

It is a BBC (UK) show that started in the early 60's and went until the late 90's and got revived (and continued) a few years ago.

The show is about this Character known as “The Doctor” who is an alien species known as "Time Lords" from the planet Gallifrey. Time Lords look human but have two hearts and when one body is “used up” they can regenerate (used as the explanation for new actors playing the doctor or other time lords over the years) also for some reason none of the Time Lords ever use their real name but always use some form of descriptive title (for example one of his nemesis is “the master”. Time Lords travel in ships called TARTIS (Time and relative dimension in space) The exterior is independent of the interior and is always small and basically an entrance way (since the interior is not even in his dimension), the chameleon chip (makes the outside of the bubble look like something) on the doctors Tartis is stuck in the form of a 50’s UK police box. With it the doctor can go anywhere and at any time, he is none violent (and has no weapons) but always manages to defeat the most evil of armies of aliens. He also usually has one or more human companions and at least one woman (but has also had other time lords, other aliens, guys and a robot dog)

since the series went from 60's to 90's (over 40 years ) that is known as the classic series, it got revived recently and that is known as the new series.

Although safe guess that Stewie-fanboy was making a limp not-following-the-conversation joke, to steamroller it back on to topic:
We've learned that most mainstream fans are scared off by canonical fan over-explanations of the character--

Short answer for the mainstream/unacclimated:
The (old-series) Doctor is an alien sci-fi spin on Sherlock Holmes--Dr. Watson, frustrating oddball quirks, Prof. Moriarty, and all...Either Basil Rathbone version or strange Jeremy Brett version, depending on the actor, which is half of the canon-collector fun.
Imagine Conan Doyle's Holmes being called in to consult for help on HG Wells' Martian invasion, and you've got the show.

Thanks for taking the ball and running with that one guy's. I wasn't completely sure whether it was a question or a joke! And was at a loss as to how I was supposed to reply

Indeed. I was ecstatic to finally see it happen.

I had a feeling it would be this year as the BBC had already stated that it is aiming to output 90% of it's broadcast content in HD by 2010. So now it was a case of now or never!

if Hugh Laurie wasn't House, he would have made a perfect Dr. Who.
