Default Finally Got My Blu-ray Player!

my blu-ray player finally camr in the mail today after a 2 week wait and of course the first movie i watched was crank which was everything that i expected and hoped for. i wanted to see how good of a picture i could get and the picture on crank was absolutely great. after crank i decided to watch saw since i've never saw the 1st one and i had the trilogy so i figured i'd get that outa the way and then see how good saw 3 looks on blu-ray. but so far so good, great picture, great sound, and so far all the movies i've watched are full widescreen instead of having the usual widescreen with the top and bottom taken out.

BostonHD22, for movies shot in CinemaScope, Panavision and 70mm, there's nothing at the top and bottom taken out! There's nothing there! So the black is the empty space (just imagine they are very thick framelines in the negative between frames ).

There is image on the negative that is covered with the black bars for movies shot in the Super-35 process intended for "Scope" 2.39 wide projection (and movies shot with standard Academy Sound cameras (1.37) intended for Standard 1.66-1.85 Widescreen projection, but this 4:3 issue doesn't affect people with newer 16:9 displays), but this image area is not intended to be seen, you don't see it in the theater. That's why you'd see John Cleese's underwear in A Fish Called Wanda in a transfer w/o the bars matting the area when he' was supposed to be naked, etc.

Sorry, I wanted to clear up that misconception

Hope you enjoy your new high resolution widescreen movies!
