Default I *finally* bought a Blu-ray player!!

Yes, you got that right. I didn't have a Blu-ray player yet! Now before you tar and feather me, I explained my decision a long time ago (see here). In a nutshell, the main reasons were:
- PS3 delay in Europe
- Movie selection (12 Monkeys, The Thing, Casablanca, Casino...)
- Region encoding
- Profile situation

Now most of those problems have been solved or rendered irrelevant (I have already watched most of the HD DVDs I wanted to see ). Region encoding is still there, and multi-region solutions still few and far-between, but at the very worst I can import a region A player somewhere down the line (I'd be content with the upcoming Gowell or something).

Don't think I have been sitting on my hands all this time. I stopped buying HD DVDs last summer and bought a good dozen BD titles during the all-important Q4 in anticipation of my player purchase (which at the time I didn't know if it would be a PS3 or something else).

And yes, I have just heard the rumours about the PS3 price drop, but even if it comes in late February, I really want to get a Blu-ray player before then because I'll soon have the house to myself during a whole week and I want to take advantage of that.

40GB PS3. I usually go against the mainstream (I bought an iriver instead of an ipod, and years ago even an Atari ST instead of a PC!!), but this time I kept up with the Joneses.

Well I won't tar and feather you as long as you join our Folding@home team (team 56895)

Congrats though on an excellent choice even though you have now fallen into the category of "your a gamer so you don't buy blu-rays" I am in that category to somewhat since we also one a PS3.

Thanks for the kind words.

A little retailer story - yesterday I went to the local equivalent of Best Buy to get the Blu-ray remote for the PS3 and guess what? They were sold out!! I didn't know if I should feel angry or happy.
