it's in 720p and 1080i. you can force your ps3 to display 1080p, but it probably won't look as good.

720p ticked > always defaults to 1280x720 native
1080i/p ticked (720p not ticked) > 960x1080 native upscaled to 1920x1080

Quote:
From Michiel:

"Ok, this is the deal: If Killzone 2 detects a TV that is set to 1080p or 1080i and cannot switch to 720p (our preferred resolution, for if your TV supports it), then it will render in 960x1080 and horizontally scale that to 1080i/p.
The advantage of doing this (over rendering 720p and then upscaling it to 1080i/p) is that you don't have *any* vertical scaling, and analog TV's don't even have a horizontal resolution. The result is a much clearer picture with much less artifacts for those who have a 1080i/p only set.
Killzone's adviced resolution is 720p, we just made sure that if you have a 1080i/p only set, it looks much better than the 'naive' implementation of upscaling 720p"

If your TV supports 720p, leave it ticked in the XMB.

If your TV supports 720p input, don't manually untick 720p as a supported resolution in the XMB to try and force the game to output a 1080 res.

Didnt he just say untick 720p if you have a 1080p/i TV? He said it would leave far less artifacts and such. 720p might be their "prefered" (whatever that means) resolution, but he said unticking it would lead to a better picture if your tv can handle 1080i/p

No thats not what he said..

What he said was 720p was the best,
but for those without 720p support they
created a special scaling solution that
would provide better picture and less
artifacts then the stardard scaling solution
by setting the resolution to 960x1080 and
scaling up the vertical resolution.

Your not punished as much as its easier to scale
vertical over horrizontal based on what he said.

Well what is the standard scaling solution? To me he's saying that if you untick 720p the game renders in 960x1080 and thus it doesnt have to do any vertical scaling.

This in theory should provide me with a much better picture since my tv doesnt exactly do a great job of upscaling 720p signals. Also Max did say he thought 1080i looked better.

The quote also says 1080i "it looks much better than the 'naive' implementation of upscaling 720p"

I have no idea but the dev said it was better then the standard method of upscaling, I don't know if hes right but ill just smile and say its a wonderful world.

No, he said untick 720p if you have a 1080i/p only display. One that doesn't accept 720p input. If your TV or monitor does a bad job upscaling, it may be worth experimenting.

My tv doesnt do a great job upscaling 720p. So yes, I will try unchecking it for this game.
