Default Mitsubishi announces their Blu-ray discs!

Quote:
Mitsubishi will be releasing a single-sided, single-layer BD-R and BD-RE disc which can hold up 25GB of data making it a bit more “flexible” than the HD-DVD discs. Later on the company may add the 50GB dual layer Blu-ray disc to their almost complete line on next generation media discs.

Mitsubishi is a name which has been in business for sometime now, and looking as they will most likely be the first one’s to release the next generation discs, they can be sure of the enormous profit they will be making. As the war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray nears closer and closer we all await the arrival of this new technology with great anticipation. My TV is a Mits and I can assure you it's very nice. What kind of quality BD player they'd put out may be another story. Won't know for certain until it's out and reviewed by the experts.

Mitsubishi is a very large company in Asia. They make automobiles, appliances, and electronic equipment. In USA, they were beter known for their cars. However Mitsubishi found sucess in the large DLP HDTV market where there products are designed using the DLP chips designed by Texas Instruments, but at very competitive prices compared to their Popular branded rivals. They can make a name for themselves in electronics value and quality. However Mitsubishi is quite a well nown brand name for cars.

What would an averaged Joe say when he/she sees a Mitsubishi HDTV for the first time?
"I thought Mitsubishi made only cars, I did not know they made TVs". Then all the sales person must do is present the features and it's great price, and it will be sold.

A Mistubishi branded Blu-Ray player and Blu-ray media is a sign that Mistubishi is branching from HDTVs to Home Theaters in general.

I agree completely - you should stick with a really big name company.

Like... perhaps... Mitsubishi.

Mits. has their act together on electronics and tends to have engineering philosophies that are great. They make products that hit a lot of price points (like Sony) but they tend to be a bit less expensive than some of their competitors, while often having a better engineered product. So, you pay less, and get more.

In the world of Crestron (very high end home automation) we frequently saw Mitsubishi's top tier CRT televisions in use and the Mits. HSU-778 VCR was THE go to product for straightforward design and control at a great price for an excellent product.

They also have been doing fairly well with some of their front projection designs.

No, they aren't in there with plasmas and LCD displays - which most companies lose money on, but they stick with what they do very well.

I personally would love to see a BD player from them.

Pardon me, but didn't I see a Mitsubishi BD player, or at least a prototype, at a fairly recent electronics show?

I thought they were going to be putting out BD hardware. I hope they do/would by year's end.

That would just mean yet another choice from yet another big CE company that carries a lot of sway and respect out there.

Yes there is a Mits BD player prototype but I haven't heard anything at all about when they'll release their first player into the market.

I bought my first Mitsubishi TV back in 86 IIRC. It lasted almost 18 years of regular use before its power supply started failing.

I didn't even know they made cars until much, much later.

Once again you betray that you really don't know what you're talking about.

Mitsubishi has been selling TV's and other forms of consumer electronics for several decades now, at least.

You must be some young kid or something.

Look at his post history. I'm calling it like I see it and I think I'm being pretty polite, all things considered.

They are like Yamaha, Toshiba etc. only go for more sophisticated devices such as planes or at least they did until recently.

Many of these companies are BIG, so big you can't imagine unless you work for a company of a similar size. Makes the company I work for with a staff of 70,000 plus look small.

More competition will hopefully decrease the price of the media and increase the quality. Will ritek join the BDR movement?

I believe that Ritek were showing BD prototype discs at CES. HD DVD also - I don't think that they have chosen a side.

This probably doesn't mean much, but I'm not sure I've ever even heard of Ritek...
