Default Flowers in the Attic (1987) coming from Arrow

Quote:
home sweet home is murder…

when her husband dies in a tragic accident, widow corrine dollanganger (victoria tennant, the holcroft covenant) takes her four children to the ancestral family home she fled before they were born. Locked away in the attic by their tyrannical grandmother (academy award® winner louise fletcher, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest), it falls to older and sister brother chris (jeb stuart adams, the goonies) and cathy (kristy swanson, buffy the vampire slayer) to care for their younger siblings. But with their mother growing increasingly distant and erratic and a mysterious sickness taking hold, will any of the dollanganger children survive to escape the clutches of the house’s cruel matriarch?

Originally published in 1979, vc andrews’ novel flowers in the attic was a smash hit, spawning four sequels and going on to sell over 40 million copies worldwide. With undercurrents of incest and child abuse and a haunting score by christopher young (hellraiser), flowers in the attic is a dark and chilling gothic suspense thriller in the classic tradition.

This is one of those movies that really got to me emotionally as a kid. I can remember 4:

1. Robocop: Murphy dying really horrified me
2. Silver Bullet: This scared the crap out of me because I watched it at my grandparents' house which was in a secluded area by a lake. I slept in a room with a big window that looked outside near woods and the lake. Beautiful, but scary when you imagine a werewolf running at you from out there!
3. Body Double: That scene with the drill in the ceiling...
4. THIS movie: I won't spoil it for any who haven't seen it, but it's...emotional and terrifying to imagine in real life. And I saw it as a kid who had loving parents and grandparents.

***And pre-ordered! Oh yeah, Poltergeist scared me, too, because my sister had that EXACT clown. No joke! She liked to scare me with it, too!

There's one part in this movie that always got me.
[Show spoiler]When the mom tells them Corey died. The mom is ice cold here. Hits the poor older brother so hard!

Incest is only hinted at. Did anyone see the Lifetime version of the series from a few years ago? Those were absurd.

So it looks like the Arrow has the same review ratings as the older blu ray release.

Is there any reason to get the Arrow over the Image Entertainment? The one from Image is ten dollars less. I don't have this in my collection and was waiting for the Arrow to be released before I picked up a copy. Reading the two reviews they sound almost the same for video and for being a mono track sound the similar on audio as well.

The bonus features are really nice on the Arrow release (especially that alternate ending), plus the encoding is bound to be far better on the Arrow than it is on the Image release.

I watched the Lifetime series. All those blondes were very easy on the eyes.

I saw the Lifetime movie first, and then this. Maybe it's because I saw it first, but I preferred the Lifetime one. I preferred it because, even though I didn't read the book, it seemed to have all the scenes from the book and be closer to the book. The ending of the original movie version also seemed very cheesy to me.

What happens in the Arrow bonus feature alternate ending?

The Image release has compression issues not present on the Arrow disc.

I read all of the V.C. Andrews books as they were released (until she died).

I wasn't planning on buying this disc, until I just read that the audio commentary has quite a bit of info on Ms. Andrews herself. So, I've ordered a copy, mainly for the commentary track.

I preferred the Lifetime version, overall.

Ordered the Arrow edition from Amazon and the Image release was inside. Now have to return and had a new one ship to me, hopefully it isn't an issue. Anyone else experience this?

Was it factory sealed; with the tear strip toward the bottom? It sounds like someone swapped their disc and then returned the old disc.

I got the package in one of those white long envelopes. It was definitely the Arrow packaging but not sealed at all. I opened it, the booklet was in there but the disc was the Image release.
