The Sin of Nora Moran is returning to screens with a limited edition Blu-ray and DVD release as stunning to audiences as it was in 1933!

Synopsis - Zita Johann takes on the title role of Nora Moran, the young woman sentenced to the death, the first time a woman would face the chair in twenty years.

Awaiting her sentence, Nora Moran explores the patterns of her life in a dream-like haze, including the dark secret that could change not only her own fate - but the fate of those she holds most dear!

It’s a real gem from an unexpected studio-Majestic Pictures. Most everything here is an overachievement for a poverty row picture from the full score to the jumping time transitions going forward, back, present. Even the poster is a work of art-an iconic image from the pre-code era. Zita Johann didn’t make many films and unlike The Mummy or Tiger Shark this is her film and she’s excellent. This recently played on TCM for the first time and that print was very nice. It’s also on YouTube if you want to see it.

This is an interesting film. I'm surprised Film Detective got this, as opposed to Kino or Criterion. With the downfall of Twilight Time, I'm glad that some boutique labels continue to release unusual film. The more the merrier!

Reportedly an influence on CITIZEN KANE. I saw this in 35mm at UCLA years ago and was stunned by how great it was.

Did I miss if this will be burned or pressed? I don’t think FILM DETECTIVE has ever released a pressed Blu, have they? Hope this will be the first.

I would love to get this poster but anything paper-wise from this film is very rare and at exorbitant prices when they do surface. A number of years ago some folks got together and reproduced a number of iconic posters using original stone litho presses and even those go for hundreds of $$$ when they come up for auction.

pre-code.com is usually pretty good about pointing out pre-code elements in pre-code films in the Proof That It's Precode section of their reviews.

Not at all visually risqué, only the subject matter. The posters are laughable misdirection.

Good news then. The recently limited edition premium Bruceploitation film they put out was pressed so I hope this one is too as its one of the better pre-Codes.

Only if you view the artwork literally, and not symbolically.

I e-mailed them a couple weeks ago about this and they replied they hoped to have the blu-ray released around the end of July.

Since it's not up for pre-order anywhere that doesn't sound very possible but that's what they said.

Hi all! We're getting excited for "The Sin of Nora Moran" release. The pre-order is upcoming this week in anticipation for the street date on July 29. There will also be a Willy Wonka-esque giveaway, with one gold certificate sealed in one of the limited-edition Blu-rays. The winning ticket holder will receive a framed, 27” x 41”, hand-pulled lithograph of the film’s original poster by painter Alberto Vargas.
