I have been getting Netflix Blu-Ray Discs for the last month or so. Of the last six discs four of them have been damaged and unplayable. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Does anyone know if blockbuster is a better BD rental service?

I've been with Netflix since 2005 and I've received exactly 1 damaged disc.

I've been getting blu-rays for months now and not once has a disc not looked brand new out of the envelope.

Of course I just jinxed myself by saying that.

I think it matters what area you are in. I can see three possibilities.

1) The people in your area are jerks and don't take care of their rentals before mailing them back.

2) The postal service employees are the jerks for not handling mail properly.

3) The employees of your local Netflix shipping facility are the jerks.

So, the only way to get around damaged discs from Netflix by going with Blockbuster is if the problem is only #3 because the same type of people are going to be renting from Blockbuster too. Just keep reporting the damaged discs as soon as you get them and maybe Netflix will track down the people who are actually doing the damage. If it continues to happen I would send in a complaint and maybe they will upgrade your service to an extra disc for a month or two.

Sorry for your bad luck. I've been getting them for a while. I think we've had 2 unplayable discs, 1 DVD and 1 blu-ray. Netflix promptly sent out a replacement though once they were reported damaged/defective.

I have been using Netflix for a year and haven't really ever had any issues...hopefully this issue resolves itself for you, couldn't tell you about how Blockbuster is though

I ditched Netflix two weeks ago. I couldn't take the "short wait, long wait" crap any longer.

I probably rented 20 Blu-rays from Netflix and never had a problem.

I've been a member for years, and while I have never had a problem with a Blu-Ray they've sent. I did once receive a DVD that was broken in half, and was promptly replaced.

I go up to Hollywood video, not use Netflix. That way the employees check the discs before they give them to me and they have cleaning/buffing equipment.

I've gotten more than 50 Blu-rays from them by now and about 5 of them were damaged. They all had a crack on the outter edge, which made them unplayable. After the 2nd time I called them and they said that they are aware of the problem (which seems to be happening because the discs are not as bendable as DVDs and when they run through the automated sorting machines in the Postal Service they can get damaged). This is about 2 months ago. I have gotten one more broken one last week, but the rest seems to be fine.
The rep was talking about an extra security layer/sticker on the disc (not sure if that'll help though).

Anyways, just file for a damaged disc and they'll get a new copy to you right away. If this should keep happening definitely call them.

I've been with Netflix for several years now and very occasionally had a damaged disc.

However, just 2 weeks ago I received 2 blu-ray titles, Incredible Hulk and Indian Jones/Crystal Skull, and Hulk was cracked and Indy just wouldn't play. Neither of them looked old, scratched or manhandled in any way. In fact Indy looked brand new. They sent me replacements and those also looked brand new and played perfectly.

I guess things (*&%$) just happen.
