I started netflix for the first time a few months ago when a member on here gave me a free 1 month trial. I loved it so I kept the membership, right now my package is 3 discs at a time unlimited, blu-rays, and unlimited "watch instantly" via the internet and I pay $19 a month. That's as much as 4 rentals at any movie store, and you don't have to waste the gas.

The only negative thing about Netflix is that for new releases (such as King Kong right now), the movie might be listed as "Long Wait" or "Short Wait", and it might only take another 4 or 5 days to be free. But that doesn't really bother me.

Default Netflix

I love it. I am getting movies everyday other day. I am not getting the new releases because there is a wait. But hey cheaper then Blockbuster and save on gas.

+1. And if you watch a lot of movies then you can't beat Netflix for the price. I'd highly recommend it OP

I've had it for about a year and I love it. The shipping times are great and you can even time it to get new releases on release day. It's almost perfect.

I'm on the "one at a time" plan (with the Blu option) which brings it to around $10.00 every month. (We average about 7-8 discs a month) The shipping is fast. In addition, I have the Roku box for the free streaming movies. My wife and I love it. Yeah, sometimes it is hard to get new releases but overall I am pleased with the service. We like the foreign flicks and they aren't in demand as much.

Thumbs down

It’s a good idea in general, but I keep getting cracked and scratched movies that skip or don’t play at all. Good thing I have my own collection to fall back to, I would not relay on Netflix as the exclusive source of movies to watch.

on a box-based streaming (the roku, the BD300, xbox 360), you can get HD.

on a PC, you can only get SD.

The term "HD" can be a bit misleading. Technically, macroblocked 720p is still HD.

Anyway, I really don't understand why people rent movies. I guess it's a bit better when you're on a monthly cost rather than a per movie payment system, but I still don't get the appeal. You're losing money without gaining anything tangible. Sure, you get to see the movie, but just until you send it back. It just seems like such a waste to invest so much money in something and have nothing to show for it at the end of it.

Entertainment seems like a worthy expense to me. I guess people should stop going to amusement parks, concerts, and sporting events as well?

I rent movies to see whether they are worth a purchase.. If i don't like a film, then spending a few dollars to see it as opposed to several more dollars to buy it is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Especially considering our average Netflix rental costs around $1.50, it's not much of an extra expense to rent something before buying it.

Anyway...

To the OP: we've been on Netflix for years and love it. Highly recommended

my only complaint is the wait times. with new releases you have to plan on waiting atleast a week or 2...sometimes much longer depending on the movie. overall though its cheap and netflix has a very nice selection of BD's.

If you add movies into your queue as soon as they hit theaters, then you'll have a very good chance of getting new releases first.

Hasn't failed me yet...

No. As someone else already stated, Netflix claims 720p. I've watched several of their HD movies and the picture quality is better than their regular streamed movies and a tad better than say a regular dvd. Netflix released a firmware update recently that really helped the quality. They don't have a lot of HD movies but they are adding them slowly. I noticed Season 1 of Star Trek is now available in HD for instance.
