I know most people here will say not to get a HTIB, but given that I'm just in college, that's really all I can afford at the moment. I have heard that if you are going to get one, Onkyo would be the ones to look at. So I was just wondering if this one would be a decent one, or if I should look at a different one (I could probably go $100 more if need be.)

Ok, so I'm assuming you mean 2 Polk Monitor 50's, which would replace the two front speakers in the 5.1 polk setup? Or would those act as the two other speakers to make it 7.1? Becuase with buying two of those, plus everything else (especially since I couldn't find the 605 anywhere, so I put in the 606.), it comes out to close to $1000, whereas my budget for this is about $800...

Ok, so in the end, how much better sound will I get getting the smaller budget home theater in your sig, compared to the HTIB? Since I would really have to stretch to get the set-up in your sig.
And since I forgot to post it in my OP, here are the specs to the one I was talking about. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882120122 |

getting a HTIB 90% of the time will be a waste of money. The speakers that come with the system will most likely be sub-par compared to custom separate speakers. Also HTIB lacks certain features such as HDMI audio.
Yes, if you are on an extreme budget it would get the job done. But waiting to save up enough money for a real setup would be better use of your money. |

I have a very similar question, i didn't want to make another thread. I have a ps3 and currently have a 5.1 sony HTIB that im looking to replace with something better i want something where i can hear DTS MA and DOLBY HD. I was looking at that polk speaker system but i am not sure what amp to get. I don't have alot to spend but i was looking at that Onkyo 605 and the yamaha 663 which i herd good things but im not sure what amp to get, i think the yamaha is out of my price range. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: I've never herd of that accesories4less.com they have a good price for that refurb 605 are they legit? Last edited by Kryptron; 08-10-2008 at 08:24 PM. |

Alright, so I have decided that I am just going to save up more and not get a HTIB. However, I do have another question. Is it true that the PS3 isn't good in the audio department because of the fact that it decodes and outputs in PCM multichannel only? And because of it, should I also save up and get a different Blu-Ray player as welll for the best results?
Sorry for all of the question, just new to all of this. |
