I am leaning towards bi-amping my speakers once I actually build them, and would like to know if anyone has some recommendations on active crossovers. I looked at the Behringer CX2310 which appears to be on the low end and costs $80 per unit which only would handle one channel so the costs are significant. I read that some active crossovers may introduce some hum into the system but that isn't exactly what the manufacturer's specs will tell you about. I saw StimpsonJcat's responses to forsberg's thread last month but there were no recommendations on the quality of various active crossovers so some advice would be helpful.
In the case of the Behringer unit it had balanced XLR connections, but I was really leaning towards two of those NAD amps that Big Daddy listed recently which have RCA only. The Emotiva seems to have XLR inputs but my Sony STRDG1000 AVR only has RCA. Another company, Groundsignal, uses RCA plugs and their units seem to be close to 1000 Euro, way out of my price range. Another big concern for me is the ability to set various points in the crossover frequency, just planning on two level. So any thoughts on the XLR vs RCA needs would be useful as well along with crossover setting options. Thanks for any advice. |

I posted a question back in the sub-woofer section about crossover settings. Since the question is aimed at the sub-woofer I felt that was a better location for it.
