Default What does pre/pro mean? Best settings?

Good Morning. uBer home audio NOOB here.

I was wondering what does pre/pro mean as it relates to home audio?

Also, have a best audio settings question:

My PS3 outs to my Denon 4308CI via HDMI then outs to my DLP HDTV via HDMI

To hear the lossless audio soundtrack found on most BD, I should set my PS3 setting on Linear PCM, confirm the lossless audio soundtrack is what's being sent out of my PS3 and I guess my question is (hopefully my statements are correct thus far), is there a certain listening mode I need to set my receiver to?

Pre-processor decodes the audio etc.... and is paired with separate amplifiers to power the speakers..... While a "Receiver" does both, "Separates" are usually higher quality, and built for their specific purposes....

With that being said, you can use a (most) Receiver as a pre-processor and connect a separate amplifier to it......

For separate amps there are many choices from solid-state, tube, etc... and they offer didn't sonic characteristics. There are multi-channel amps, such as ones that power 2, 3, 5, or 7 speakers.... and there are individual amps that power one speaker. Many people buy 7 or 8 single amps to power their speakers, but the cost certainly adds ups.

You should keep your receiver just set to 5.1 or 7.1 or whatever you have it on..... I'm not a fan of allowing the receiver to apply "effects" such as "cinema mode" etc.

And if you're using the PS3, to ensure you're getting the best possible audio, just hit "Select" during the movie and it will tell you the audio in the top right corner, but many times even if Lossless audio is available, the movie will default to Dolby-Digital etc.... so just pull up the pop-up menu, and make sure the best possible audio is selected under audio/settings/languages etc... wherever that particular blu-ray menu decided to put it.

WELCOME, and enjoy!

Actually it's "Display" on the PS3 remote. (Although it may be Select with the controller- dunno as I never use it for that).

I meant controller, since I don't have a "remote" for either of them

Since I don't have any games, you'd think I'd get the remote Is there anything I need the controller for that the remote won't do???? Maybe I'll trade my two controllers for two remotes...... Do they take batteries or charge themselves like the controllers?

I totally Hi-jacked this thread

There is a "Select" button on the PS3 remote too

The remote just uses 2 AA batteries
