Welcome to the site! I am in the same boat as Nicole, was never a dvd collector, so making up for it now with blu ray. Its nice to have collection of one thing of the other, and, never really having one, I'm building a blu ray collection... and enjoying it!

You might try going to DvdPlanet to sell your DVD's. If you are having a good ebay experience then that's great. I have been clearing out DVDs as well and as I am upgrading to Blu anyway, using DvdPlanet to get credit. As they have two 20% off sales a year, I built up credit and then spent quite a bit during their last sale. I'd say averaging out, it's about $5 a DVD which may not be great but, they have some that go for more, some for less. Plus, no hassles with shipping out, waiting for payment etc.

I went and sold a few DVDs back to Newbury yesterday.
I don't have the Blu Ray versions yet and I only got $2 per title but it was stuff that is out on Blu Ray so if I wanted to watch it I would rather rent the Blu Ray from Netflix than watch the DVD from my shelf. Once I movie I like comes out on Blu Ray... the DVD version doesn't need to exist. -Brian |

Dont think I could sell my DVDs, even the ones I might not watch again.
I own about 500 titles and I'm fairly new to Blu Ray n have only bought 2 Blu Rays that I've already owned on standard Def thus far. From now on though most action movies will be Blu Ray though. |

I have about 800+ DVD's. Some I will replace on Blu, but only after the price drops below 20.00, or, maybe even below 15.00. If I already have a copy on DVD, why would I replace it immediately with a Blu for 25 to 30 bucks? Be Patient.. wait... the prices will fall below 20 on most anything you want within several months. And, as other posters have said, there are hundreds of DVD's that may get watched once every few years... these titles I will not replace on Blu.
Now, if it is a newer title that I do not have on DVD, then perhaps I may buy it earlier, but even then, I usually wait. Example: How many of you paid more than 18.99 for Iron Man? That is the current price on Amazon. Be Patient, and in time you can build your library for a lot less. |

I haven't purchased that one at all..... but you're completely right...... I'm not a big fan of several of the movies currently out that look/sound amazing, like
Transformers, TDK, Mummy movies, POTC movies, and Iron Man..... Having said that, they have wide appeal, and they are enjoyable (I don't know if I've seen any of the Mummy movies, and only saw the first POTC movie) ANYWAYS... my point is, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO WATCHES MY MOVIES..... When these are available cheap, I'll certainly buy them all. |

I won't sell my DVDs, and I will likely only get BDs of DVDs I already own if Star Wars, LOTR, Indiana Jones, and maybe a few others are released.
Otherwise, the DVD is fine for me. I don't want to sell 10 DVDs to get 1 BD. |

as an alternative, you can also try newtownvideo.com and/or secondspin.com as well. im still trying out secondspin, and hopefully get a good return on them, considering that most of the mainstream titles i did have that i tried selling to newtownvideo were either overstocked or doesnt return as much as id like it to.
all in all, newtown has to be a great experience. as long as you reconsider the price factor as an AVERAGE and not as individual items. if you hit at least 4-5 dollars on all of them, its a good trade imo. on a sidenote, i on the other hand, sadly HAD to sell my dvds. ![]() |

I am replacing my DVDs by BDs, but I am not selling my DVDs. I have given a few to friends and family and eventually I will put all the rest in boxes (not as if I watch them) as I need to clear shelves for BDs. But I spent too much money on them and would only get a small amount back so why bother. This way one day someone will see them and say "WOW how many thousands of these DVDs we never heard of did you have?"
