2.0 came out a couple weeks ago.

Learn to read. Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is the redone version of the first film.

You're thinking of Innocense. GITS 2.0 is the "special edition" version of the first one. It's been out in Japan for awhile however

Maybe I'm an idiot and am just not reading it correctly, but will this include the original 1995 version of the film?

If so, I'm sold.

I bought the special edition SDVD a while ago - it had 5.1 DTS but the sound was pretty useless compared to the fuller stereo mix. Problem seemed to be that none of the 5.1 channels including the LFE had any 'meat' to the sound. It was tinny, thin and quite hollow. If you have a decent pair of fronts (good bass response on their own), the sound is thicker... warmer than the 5.1 or if your sub' still activates in stereo mode (not all receivers allow it), you'd be good to go.

Sometimes a 5.1 bump-up isn't as good as you'd expect, depending on what they're able to extract and re-channel from the original source.

I don't actually remember much steering in stereo either so it may have been originally recorded in Mono. Maybe that's why they can't get a decent 5.1 mix out of it.

They re-recorded much of the dialog and did a brand new 5.1 mix. This is quickly becoming standard practice because most of the audio seperate elements are missing
