Do you have a 7.1 channel speaker setup? Tell us what your system setup is comprised of, and we might be able to help you figure it out.

Have you set up your arrangement in the 663's basic menu to accept 7.1?
This may be the gate.....

I am still rather inexperienced using my new 663...or any new reciever for that matter...but I have had no trouble getting 7.1 with 3:10 to Yuma's PCM to show up as 7.1 sorry about your troubles. I have noticed that you may need to look at through the menu's. I had a little trouble getting regular Dvd's matrixed up to 7.1, but I'm good now

Have you run the YPAO? I recall it having to check if I had a 7.1 or 5.1 setup during that process...though I would bet you could change between the two manually too...not that I know how

Default Same issue, same movie

I'm actually having the same issue with Hell Boy II. I have the HDMI from my Sony 350 into my Yamaha 663. But it only shows 5.1. I do have the speakers set up: RF, C, RL, SL, SR, BL, and BR. Test tone works in all. But I have yet to get those BL and BR speakers to indicate - but I do get audio out of them when Hell Boy II was playing. The only other 7.1 movie I tried was The Bank Job, and still no BL or BR indicator lights. I must be doing something wrong.

I have the 663 and hellboy 2 works fine in 7.1 in my INSIGNIA but the INSIGNIA is in bitstream.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a 7.1. But as I mentioned, "The Bank Job" which is in 7.1 doesn't indicate on the display as 7.1 either. I wonder if its a setting on my Blu-Ray? It's a Sony 350. I do have the output set at bitstream.

now you are going in to the audio settings on the Blu-ray disc and making sure it is set to 7.1 right.
thats the only thing left I can think of sorry. good luck.

just thinking about it cars is 5.1 on the case but it is in 6.1 on the disc. a miss print.

I think I figured out one of the mysteries. When I set the "BD Audio Setting" on my Sony S350 to"Direct" instead of "Mix", I got 7.1 and all the proper indicator lights. So other 7.1 discs, like "The Bank Job". play and indicate correctly.
Hell Boy II, however, is still a mystery. It plays in 7.1 - at least my back speakers are working...but I don't get the back speaker indicators on the receiver.
