Default Yamaha Rxv 663 setting question

so i bought a new sub and hooked it up to my yamaha and i noticed no music was coming from the sub so i went into the settings. there's a setting to set the bass to fronts sub or both. the setting i had it on was sub but no music was coming out so i switched it to both and sure enough the sub started pounding. the sub works when i have it set to sub with movies just no music. i am streaming my music from my computer to my ps3 if that matters. so is this normal or should i be getting some thump from my sub when its set to sub only when listening to music.

Typically in 2ch music you're only going to get the sub thumping when the audio drops below your crossover point. You mentioned having it set to "sub" or "both" but what are your crossover settings? What kind of speakers/sub do you have?

No, I wouldn't change it at all. Not all music is going to get your sub going... in fact most of them won't. We're talking low frequency here, and outside of some basshead albums and some rap and pipe organ music, you're not going to hear much of anything from it.

You could try and set the LPF of LFE up higher (like 120hz) and see if that does anything for you.
