Default Viggo Mortensen talks The Hobbit

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/viggo-...lks-the-hobbit

I'd like to see him reprise his role. It would be hard to see anyone else as Aragorn. Another big one is who will play the young Bilbo. I think it's safe to say that we're not going to get many details until 2011.

I don't remember Aragorn being in "The Hobbit"? I read it not too long ago... I remember Gandolf, Bilbo, Gollum and my favorites - the dwarves.

Oh well, I like Viggo so it would be good to have him in the movie.

He would possibly be in the sequel, at least according to Josh's timeline on the Hobbit thread.

What the....Aragorn was not in The Hobbit! Hmmmm. Oh well. That isn't staying very faithful to the book, but whatever. And a Hobbit sequel? Now I'm really confused. I'll have to go check this Josh thread....

I couldn't find Josh's post, but here is a timeline.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Arda

The Hobbit ends in 2942 of the Third Age, The Fellowship of the Ring begins in 3018.

There's a portion of the Hobbit where Gandolf leaves the group. If they decide to follow what he was doing durring this period, that gives them room to play. Strider could easily have been around considering his age. They can stay faithful to the book, while still filling in the blanks. Tolkein wrote tons of material beyond the main books.

And yes, they're making a sequel to the Hobbit. It's supposedly a bridge story set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and is based on events from Tolkein's writings. This is most likely where the cameos from the LotR cast will be.

If I remember correctly, Gandalf left to go battle the Necromancer (Sauron) down in Dol Guldur. I'd love to see that story played-out on the big screen.

I would love Ian Holme (with some make-up) reprise his role as Bilbo. He can't have aged that much in 8-9 years.. and as Gandalf said, "you haven't aged a day."

But if not him, then that young kid from 'Wanted' and 'Last King of Scotland'. I heard he was being looked at for the role of Bilbo.

Yup, that is where I copy/paste from (its also in the Appendices of LOTR, for those with the book handy). As you can see, there is a lot of Aragorn talk after Bilbo returns to Bag End. Also, Aragorn was born 10 years before Bilbo got the ring, so they could tell the story of his birth and the death of his father - build a history for the character.

.
Ian Holm is now 77 years old, I just don't see how they could make him look younger , at least young enough to be the age of Bilbo at the start of The Hobbit.

There is absolutely no way that Ian Holm is going to reprise the role of Bilbo. I mean, they had to tape his face back for the prelude scenes in The Fellowship of the Ring and I just don't think he'd be up to the challenge of going through a year of filming like that. On another note, Christopher Lee has said that he would like to reprise the role of Saruman but he is not sure if he is up to flying to New Zealand for filming.

That's stupid. "Yeah, I love it, I read it every year and I knew Tolkien. But I am not sure if I want to fly on a plane for 20 hours so I can act in a film adaption of one of the biggest and best known novels of all time."

Well, the man is 86 years old. I hope he changes his mind though.

When you are 86, think back on what you just said he see if you will want to fly 20 hours to make a film?
