Default Can PS3 do 1080i games??? HELP!

Please, someone tell me if you are running your PS3 at 1080i, and if it looks good or not?

I'm about to step down from a 1080p set to a 1080i.

I keep reading stuff like this:

PlayStation 3 doesn’t do 1080i
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/index.php?p=152

http://playsquad.commongate.com/post...1080i_Bad_News

I keep reading how 1080i is not good for gaming... someone please provide some facts!

This is total BS. Either that or it has been fixed in updates since the article which was wirtten last year. I play all of the games he mentioned on both a 1080p TV and a 1080i TV. Since those are 720p games and not 1080p output they look the same on both and I am not being downscaled to 480p. This is just more negative hype.

Resistance and MotorStorm (both 720p I think) look great on my 1080i. I think the only reason why they seem a little worse than what I have seen on 1080p is that my TV is a few years old and has lower contrast capability than many of the newer models.

I think some people had issues regarding that there tv only supported
480i, 480p, 1080i, because there tv did not support 720 it would
down convert to the next available resolution on games that
ran on 720.

Just make sure you 1080i also supports 720p and you will still be
in business.

Theres a topic on this on the official Playstation boards where members
request that Sony or the game developers patch there games to
upconvert 720 games to 1080i.

Of course that causes wild rumors to spread about Sony having some sorta
magic red button that would fix this. Possibilities of this is in the low to
impossible rank level.

I hope that answered the question within the constraints of logic and reasoning.

Most any new HDTV that's 1080i will probably support 720p, correct?

Default Not all 1080p TVs support 720p

I have a Samsung DLP that only displays in 1080p. Everything else is upconverted. I was concerned that 720p games would not look very good, since it would not be a native signal, but frankly, they look awsome. (PS2 games look terrible, but that's a different issue entirely.)

My HDTV runs at 1080i without 720p... My games still look very impressive running @480p ! Whatever type of HDTV that you have ! regardless of the resolution it will still produce nice images...... "In my opinion"

I do have a friend who had one of the 1080i or 480i/p TVs. His does down-convert 720p to 480p, so it does look worse. Mine is 1080i max, but will do 720 and 480, so I have no issues.

My ps3 is sad because it cant be displayed in
full glory. I tell it soon my friend soon...

My savings got emptied by a family emergency...

My paycheck graciously pays my huge student loans...
