Default Where do content producers go to get blu-ray licenses?

This seems like a good thing for content producers but who does one currently go to to get licensing for content distribution on blu-ray discs?

Also, this comment in a wikipedia article on blu-ray concerns me

The choice of codecs affects the producer's licensing/royalty costs...
What do they mean by this? How am i supposed to know what fees are associated with which codec?

Well, as the article you linked to says, Panasonic, Sony, and Philips have the greatest royalty stake in both Blu-ray players and discs, though, depending on your product, you may have to license other technologies as well. PReviously, you had to deal with those companies independently... now you'll be able to just deal with one "licensing body" and pay a lower overall cost.

For a player, you'll also have to pay DVD licensing, and for movies you'll have to pay royalties on the codec to MPEG LA or another body.

Like any format, it can get rather complicated (and certain manufacturers *cough*China*cough* will "forget" to pay the appropriate licensing fees for the products they create), but if your company didn't make any effort to innovate, and you're stuck relying on the hard R&D work of others, its only fair.

So what exactly do I, as a movie producer, need to license? I thought i only had to pay for the use of blu-ray discs and apparently the codec used to encode them, or do i just have to pay for just the use of the codec?

The per-disc license is included in your pressing cost. Some replicators will take care of collecting the other fees as well, you need to ask them

In the end, extras beyond production and the disc include the audio and video codecs and things like BD-J and BD+. You really need to ask your replicator about it.
