Default Easy Guide to install Power behind a mounted TV

I have been asked this question many times so i want to post some help on this. The easiest way to get power up behind your wall mounted tv and not have to buy a separate power bar/conditioner for the this, or tap in to existing power in the home.

step 1

Install a power outlet behind the tv, this is a standard plug that you would use in your home. Make sure you mount the box to the stud just like a rough install would.

Step 2

Install the same power box and outlet behind your entertainment unit where your powerbar/conditioner will be, usually directly below the box you installed behind the TV.

Step 3

Run standard in-wall electrical wire between the 2 boxes, make sure they are wired correctly. Get a wire fish line to do this.

Step 4

Get a good heavy duty extension cord 6' is all you should need, cut off the female end. You will also need to buy a replacement male end from the hardware store. Now attach the male end to the cut off area and plug 1 side into the power-bar and the other into the wall outlet you just installed.

Now you will have power to the outlet behind the tv and will obey all electrical codes with out ever taping into your home electrical wiring. if you plan on using the outlet behind the tv for lighting just make another cord and plug it into the other outlet. The nice feature about doing it this way is when you unplug the cord from the outlet by the power bar there is no longer power running to your tv.

Hope this helps people planning on installing there TV but are worried about power.
