Default Ceiling Mounted PJs and Power Conditioners

How does one go about integrating a power conditioner and/or UPS with a ceiling-mounted front projector?

I have an AC outlet on the ceiling for the projector. I built a little shelf and attached it to the ceiling next to the projector. The surge protector and power conditioner is on the shelf. I bought all the material for the shelf from Home Depot.

i am going to use one of these http://www.panamax.com/Products/In-W...ERKIT-PRO.aspx
you can get them for about $200 that way i can use the power conditioner and ups in the rack for the projector and have the ability to switch everything off or unplug it for vacation or severe storms.

you have to be very careful with what you get, just running the wire from the power conditioner through the wall to an outlet will not meet code.

Thanks for the link! I'm still having some trouble understanding how it all would work. Sounds like you would still need a power conditioner and/or ups and the remote Powerkit (where the pj is plugged in) somehow integrates with it? Not sure how that works.

The literature also mentions requiring a dedicated curcuit for everything. Sounds like I'll need to get a good electrician involved.

A power conditioner is one thing but check out Purepoweraps.com
This beast has a Battery back-up so you can still run the fan to cool down your lamp in a power outage as opposed to letting it bake to failure. If you've got a good investment in your projo... this is the way to go. 65 pounds of power re-conditioning and battery back-up. About 1000 watts draw is your limit though.

i forgot to ask if you already had an outlet on the ceiling where your projector is

all the panamax does is allow you to plug your projector into the power conditioner you use for your other components and meet code, you would still need a power conditioner but this would be the best way to go if you wanted great protection without having the power conditioner near your projector.
for this you would need to run a wire in wall from the outlet where your projector is to your audio and video rack and install the kit then you would plug your projector into the wall outlet on the ceiling and plug the other wall jack into your power conditioner.

you could also use an in wall power conditioner like this http://www.amazon.com/PS-Audio-Soloist-wall-conditioner/dp/B000QC78IY
this would replace the outlet that your projector plugs into and will give you surge suppression and cleaner power. please note this will not be quiet as good as using an external power conditioner but it will get the job done with minimal work and no visible power conditioner.

hmm. from what ive learned, the pj bulb will suffer extensively if it suddenly dies out, without enough time to cool down.

but ive been told otherwise, that its not the idea of it suddenly turning off that affects it, but the chance of turning it ON while its still hot.

ok. heres the example.

watchin movie, suddenly power outage...

best scenario?

your pj has a ups on it, and you have time to turn it off...

good scenario?

your pj goes out with the power, but you have the chance to pull the plug or prevent it from turning on once again...

worse scenario?

your pj goes out,
1. power suddenly goes back on, and your pj attempts to turn on
2. you power it on yourself to let it 'cool down' so to speak.

in summary, its not the sudden turning off of the pj, but the sudden introduction of electricity (may it be turning on manually, or by itself) thats hazardous.

but im still learning more about this. will get back to you on this one.

The operating temperature of a projector lamp could reach few thousand degrees. This indeed impacts destructively on surrounding electronics. The cooling fan is used to cool down the lamp as well as the surrounding components.

In case of sudden power failure, if the fan stops, the temperature of the surrounding components could rise to destructive levels due to heat dissipation from the lamp. If this regularly occurs, the projector will prematurely fail due to component failure. Hence, it is very important to run the fan until lamp is cooled down after switching off the unit.
