Default Game Console Controller Family Tree

Didn't see a thread for this so I thought I'd share. This is pretty cool. It's a family tree of game console controllers starting with the Atari 2600 joystick.

Sock Master's Game Console Controller Family Tree

A little bit of nostalgia...

The first Xbox controller reminded me of the Sega Dreamcast controller.... You remember the memory cards they had for that? How they plugged in the controller and you could play mini games on them, like a tamagachi? That was an awesome idea...

That Sega Saturn controller looks like a damn smoke alarm.

The Playstation controller is a thing of beauty. Fantastic design that's worked for over a decade.

Agreed. But I actually forgot that the PS1 controller didn't have thumbsticks. I could have sworn it did until seeing it again in the tree.

It did, it had the PS1 controller and then it had the PS1 dual Analog Controller

A decade old controller and it's defenately showing its age as its the worst Next-Gen controller (IMO)

Ah, ok, so I'm not crazy, then. Or wait, maybe I am. No I'm not. Yes I am. No I'm not... geez, I never know which personality is talking to which.

LOL, I remember when we upgraded our NES to a Super NES and I thought the improvement in the controller was just sooooo much better. Then we upgraded to the N64 and I was blown-away by how good that controller was. After that, we went to the XBox, and no controller has compared since.

Although I still like the PS3 controller design, I do prefer the XB1 and 360 controller since I have big hands. The thumbstick placement is better, too, I don't tend to "twiddle" or bump my thumbs together like I do with the PS3 controller.

I have small hands and it remains the best controller I ever used. Shame they caved and went with the smaller one. Never liked the playstation controller but I've gotten used to it. My hand hurts after playing it for awhile.

That's why they wanted to go with the ergonomic design of the Boomerang, and then people freaked out.

best controller for me was the N64 one, followed by the Sega Genesis 6-button.

The N64 one was just cool, pulling the Z-button to shoot in Goldeneye was GENIUS!
